Smile, ask people questions about themselves (people love to talk about themselves!) and join some groups/clubs. Good luck.

Join clubs - if you can even vaguely play a musical instrument join band/orchestra or even the choir. That's what I did when I changed schools at 12 and the people I met in the music room are still my closest friends years after leaving school and moving hundreds of miles.

Whatever you do Roxy don't try and fit in by changing. I did that once and was mean to loads of folk cause i was just trying to be cool. The people i was mean to turned out to be much cooler and we're all good mates now. On a purely shallow level, i've found that loads of cool people play guitar - why not take it up. may not work, but at least you'll look the part. Good luck babe.

Just be yourself dont be afraid to talk to people- there will be other people at the school in exactly the same position as you, maybe join some groups and stuff like team sports and see how it goes- people will see that you make an effort and are independant you will start to make friends in no time.

Hey Roxy, Don't try too hard and try not to appear too stand offish. Sometimes when a person is shy, they seem to send out a look that says "leave me alone". I just moved my three kids in January, too. They all took their time getting to know people, just tried to be laid back, not too eager and not reserved, and then got involved in clubs/sports they liked. They have met very fun and nice people because they didn't join clubs just because the popular people did, but what they themselves liked to do. Relax and look at it as a time to start over fresh and be confident in yourself!

Work out who is the most popular and tag on to the group. Or be friendly with people sitting around you in class.

join clubs and get into the studentbody etc...... that is a way. Or if there are classes that offer tutoring do it. It might seem like a waste of time but i met a bunch of cool people while tutoring.

Just go to school and the people that think that you would do good with them will come up to you but don't make the mistake of shuting other people out.

all I can suggest is to reach out of your comfort zone. Reach out to new people. The worse that can happen is that they respond and not reach back. No big deal... move on to someone else. It's not easy when you're shy... but you have nothing to lose right?
