My daughters are 11 & 14 and they both are about average size. I need to lose at least 20 pounds. Both my girls know how I struggle with my weight. I exercise and eat alright but sometimes I am not as dedicated as I should be. They want to do some active things with me. I thought about us doing aerobics at home together at least one day out of the week. They both agreed to that. What else would be fun? Neither of us is into sports. We don't play ball or run marathons. We are in decent shape but we are not high quality athletes. I already have a gym membership and I go to the gym regularly. I can not afford to buy a membership for both of my girls. Any other suggestions?

Get a trampoline, go for bike rides. Go to a park and hike in the woods and have a nature hunt. Have a jumproping contest or hula hoop contest. Turn up the music and have a dance contest. Play hide and seek or tag. If you have scooters, have a scooter race.Swimming and playing tag in the pool is fun. These are all activities that "disguise" that you are actually exercising!

Hi, well first it bothers me that your fitness center does not have a family membership plan, but I can't help you on that. But I would recommend:

1. Purchasing a Tae-Bo DVD/Video, and move your furniture around, so all 3 of you exercise watching the DVD/Video.

2. Incline skating if there is a safe track by you. This exercise will greatly improve your cardio and burn some calories.

3. Swimming.

PS: Although once a week is better than no exercise; see if you can try and do it at least 3 times a week........the improvements will be clearly noticeable.

Check out some exercise videos, go biking, rollerblading, swimming, and even just going for fast paced walks is good. I don't go to a gym, I do everything at home. I love doing outdoor stuff, but it's way too hot in Florida right now, so I've been trying out exercise videos. Check out some that involve boxing (they're a lot of fun) and maybe yoga.

DDR (dance dance revolution) is a great way to be active and have fun. My husband and I actually do this for part of our exercise routine. We have it on our playstation 2, I think they have it on other game stations too. With hula hooping and jump rope they'll do it for a minute and then get tired but this is something kids really get into. Also make sure there are a lot of healthy snack options in the house and not a lot of unhealthy snacks. Don't tell your daughter that she needs to lose weight though, she's getting to the age of being sensitive about her body. Good luck!

The coolest thing in the world is to just go outside and PLAY with them! You'll be amazed how much exercise you get! Climb, swing, roll down hills, play tag -- sometimes follow their lead for activities. My duaghter and I also have a "Yoga Kids" video that we do together -- it's a lot of fun. Richard Simmons is corny, I know, but his aerobics videos are fun for kids. More organized activities could include gardening, roller skating, ice skating, climbing trees, soccer, badmintion, hiking, walking, karate or other martial arts classes...

Take some Pilate's, spinning or yoga classes. Take your girls roller blading, swimming, hiking or go for a bike ride. I know you don't like sports or play ball but try to shoot some hoops at the local park . Tennis is also a great way to burn some calories.
