Growth Hormone can be given to a child safely if closely watch by and endocrine doctor. There are many reasons why a child would take GHT one pituitary disorders and problems gaining weight. My son has issues with his pituitary gland and GHT has been recommended for him but the only reason I have not done this yet is just simply because of the fact he would be taking daily shots and I don't wish to put him through that just yet.. GHT is covered by most insurance companies if there is a medical reason for the treatment and if it's just because the child will only be 5'1' instead of 5'2' then no I don't think they will cover it.. Yes it does cost a lot but not 50,000 a dose I only know this because I have looked into this for my child and if my memory is right it was like 3,000 a month for the medicine not 50,000. if it cost this much no insurance company would cover it and one does is only a one month supply.. There is also no guarantee that your child will get any taller he/she may just gain weight and never get any height to them at all but that is a chance a parent has to take. Good luck with your decision...

That's so wrong! It's messing around with nature. Nothing good could possibly come from that! Sure, they say there are no serious side effects...but I think we'll find out different. A few years down the road these kids will be giving birth to bigfoot or something. Then the doctors will say "oops!"

I am 6foot7, my sister is 6foot. My two cousins are 6foot4 and the girls is 5foot11...

My sister married a 6foot5 dude, and their kids are the size of children two years older than themselves according to those charts the doctors give out...

There will be no requirement to give my kids hormone tablets, they are gonna be fukcing huge!

Currently, each generation is growing on average an inch more than the one before it, unless you go for dwarves, it will happen anyway....

Spend the money on something else, buy a sports car, in England this will ensure that you will get ample opportunities to reproduce!!

I don't believe I'd take a chance on hormone treatment. This is a last resort for some children who don't grow at all, and only on the good advice of your Dr. I'd certainly get a second and even a third opinion.

I think you should not give your child drugs to benefit you wanting them to be taller. You should be thankful that you were blessed with a child and be happy no matter how short or tall they are. If this a serious medical condition that is needed to benefit their growing pattern, then by all means do all the research you can on it before you make your decision, and please take everything into consideration for your child. Take care of yourself and your child, they need you to look after them, Good luck.

if you give the child growth hormone, it not only influinces his height, but has an effect on his organs as well, like his adrenal glands. it can have major side effects and when the child grows up, he can have something like acromegaly. thats happens when the long bones have finished growing, but the growth hormone still stimulates the growth of the catilaginous structures like the ears, nose, chin, gums and basically he looks like a malformed giant.

If the person in question, because of medical complications, is in need..then why not....but if it be that Jr. just wishes he were as tall as the rest, then let him wait till he's old enough and rich enough. I live amongst the tallest average people of the world (The Netherlands) where as the people here, deal with knee and back surgery..!
