I know that the Catholic Church has been accused of opposing Birth Control in order to increase our numbers, but that simply is not true. The Popes thus far have sincerely believed that God intended married couples not use artificial means in an attempt to prevent God from creating a child. I believe if the Church is going to dictate creation policy for the bedrooms of married couples then we should be prepared to help those couples with the clothing, nutrition, schooling and medical needs of the children they produce The Church should not punish our people for following the Churches directives they should reward them. They can only reward them if they remove the financial burden of raising those children.

Being as Catholics see children as gifts from God they see birth control as interfering with Gods plan for them. Secondly they believe that abortion is murder of a human being since life begins at conception this is borne out in fetal DNA samplings. Some birth control methods work after conception placing them into the abortificant category. Thirdly they teach birth control using the fertility cycles, therefore no conception no foul. No chemical means necessary.

It is for God to grand or deny new life. When we use contraceptions, we are attempting to take the role of God.
The ones which are REALLY bad, though are not the condoms and diaphragms (they are not approved, but not truly evil).
The worst ones are the IUD, the pills, and the other abortofacts. These do not simply stop conception. They stop or interrupt IMPLANTATION. That means the sperm and egg already fused, and new life, yes new LIFE, has already begun. These 'methods' end that new life...they murder it.
THIS is why "birth control" is so bad. It is a short step from "I don't want to get pregnant" to "I want to terminate my pregnancy."

For the Catholic, the purpose of sex is to strengthen the bonds of marriage and to bring forth new life. A person who practices artificial birth control interferes with one of the purposes of sex.
The catholic Church has no problem with natural family planning, which involves being aware of teh times during the month in which the woman is fertile and avoiding sex during those times. This is seen as working with God , not against His will.

Catholics don't despise it. They probably love it...but they can't have it. It's the catholic doctrine that has made it bad.
They've chosen to believe that it's a sin to interfere in any way with the production of eggs, the fertilization of eggs, etc.
That's just how they've chosen to interpret things. It probably goes so far back, there's no telling why. You could very well be right about the reason - who knows?

It gets in the way of producing more Catholics.
Religious systems survive to the extent that they create new believers, and since people generally take on the religious beliefs of their parents, prohibiting birth control is a good way for a religion to survive.
I predict that if Catholicism drops the official ban on birth control, one of the fundamentalist protestant denominations will snatch it right up and make a big selling point of it. It's a great trick for some religion to have, though once there's one big established religion selling that trick, other religions have to find other tricks.

Because they believe sex is for the sole purpose of creating children, not for our enjoyment.
It's a bad policy, but any real Catholic will understand the origins of that policy.
Not only that, but birth control has synthetic hormones which down the road can cause numerous health issues in women. I don't think that is part of the reasoning for this policy though.

it's like this, when you put it all together you get
1) sex outside of marriage is wrong
2) after you're married, if God wants to bless you with a child, it's not right to hinder that. he's the creator of people.
there are other reasons i don't agree with taking birth control, personally. um, the possible side effects, taking hormones is kind of unsettling.

I live in Italy and I hate Ratzinger the nazi pope!!!!!! He' s very dangerous,
but I noted that in the US the catholics are more integralist than in europe.
And the christians baptists etc. of midwest are simply mad, or the amish etc....
Religion must be separated by political decisions, it' s my opinion

Gen 1:26 And he said: Let us make man to our image and likeness: and let him have dominion over the fishes of the sea, and the fowls of the air, and the beasts, and the whole earth, and every creeping creature that moveth upon the earth.
Gen 1:27 And God created man to his own image: to the image of God he created him: male and female he created them.
----------------------------------
Gen 1:28 And God blessed them, saying: Increase and multiply, and fill the earth,
----------------------------------
and subdue it, and rule over the fishes of the sea, and the fowls of the air, and all living creatures that move upon the earth.
God never took back this blessing.
