Its kinda a cop out but greeting cards can get a lot of stuff across that its difficult to do in person. You can even make your own on your computer. I have done that.
Otherwise it might be pretty easy to just invite him out for a burger or something like that. He will be trying to pick up on signs from you too so smile warmly to encourage him, look in his eyes and smile. Touch his hand if he smiles back. Then go ahead and tell him you think he's nice.
