Hunny, nothing better than VINEGAR and WATER, wash your pet with it and put antibacterial spray after when the animal is dry. it will work.

Good Luck!!!

advantage works best on fleas and ticks for my two dogs and two cats ... used it all over the southeast and in Mexico. some people like frontline best. neither is cheap, but they work. the OTC stuff does not work!!!! and will cost more in the long run. You may want to start with a strong punch - take the dog to the vet for a dip, then apply either advantage or frontline. But first discuss this approach with your vet. You are, after all, applying a strong insecticide to your animal, and it burns like crazy. More is not better in this case. Sometimes, in the winter, I may skip a month and the animals are still protected.

I have never found a spray that works in the yard, but I don't need it now. I had a couple of trees taken out to get more sun in the yard and that helps control the fleas. Also, I no longer have to have the house treated with a strong solution just for fleas. But I haven't figured how to help the little squirrels.

Not all flea medications work the same (or the best) on all dogs. Topical flea medications like Frontline, Advantage, and Advantix don't work so well on dogs with very dry skin, because it bonds to the natural oils on the skin, and without the oils, it doesn't stay on long. The three medications I mentioned, however, are very popular and are availible without a perscription from your vet.

If you want to kill just fleas, Advantage is a good product. If you want to kill fleas and ticks, Frontline and Advantix will work for you. Frontline Plus is needed to kill eggs and Advantix will not only kill AND repel fleas and tick, but mosquitos as well. Being heartworm carriers, mosquito protection is a must!

There are other medicines your vet has that are also good, like Revolution, which includes a heartworm treatment (not just a mosquito preventant).

Avoid cheap medications at all costs, like Hartz and Biospot. They are cheap for a reason! Frontline, Advantix, Advantage, Revolution et all the other expensive brands have been tested exstensively and use ingredients known to kill fleas and other pests without harming your animal. Hartz has an ongoing lawsuit with pet owners whose animals have actually died from their product.

Hope this helps!

I use advantage and it seems to work pretty well. I also treat my yard and the house. The eggs of fleas hatch new fleas and they can go for a long time, a year or so, without feeding....so you have to get rid of them all to fix the problem. With a regular bathing schedule, treatment on the dog once a month, and added protection in the house and the yard...you are sure to rid your block of fleas.

I've had the best and most consistent results getting rid of fleas on both dogs and cats by using Frontline Top Spot; I swear by it! I live in deep south Texas where ticks and fleas are brutal!!

Frontline Top Spot not only kills fleas on dogs & cats for a continuous three months on one dose, it also kills ticks dependably for up to 30 days on one dose, too...AND it's perfectly safe and effective to use on Puppies and kittens 5 weeks of age and older, too!

Frontline Top Spot comes in premeasured vials you just break open and apply to the back of the neck of each one of your dogs, right between their shoulder blades; on cats be sure to place it higher on the neck, just right below the base of the head so it can't lick it. That's it! It'll keep killing fleas on your pet for 3 months and ticks for 1 month.

Don't worry about treating your yard or house or carpet areas, as any new fleas that hatch out in your house or yard will instinctively jump on your pet's coat and die as soon as they bite them to feed. It's genius!! I couldn't live without the stuff! You can get it at your local vet or do what I do and call 1-800-PET-MEDS for the cheapest prices, plus they'll be delivered right to your house within the week!

Definitely Frontline Plus.
I've been using it for over 3 years now, on three dogs and I never see a flea in the house or on them. Also, most of my clients also use it and love it. I sure beats the old days of sparying, bathing, dipping and powdering.

Nothing you can buy over the counter. I have tried Front-line, Advantage, Advantix, and Revolution. Revolution works the best on my dogs. It also does more for them, it has a heart worm preventative in it, it worms them for a lot of different worms, protects them for two different types of mange. But you have to keep in mind, you may have to try several before you find the one that works best for your pet. Good Luck.
