Genesis 7:11 In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, on that day all the fountains of the great deep were broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened. (New King James Version)

Why is my Bible broken? There should be a translation somewhere were the cause of rain is attributed to weather patterns, clouds rain rain, not windows of heaven,

this probably says in the Hebrew that the clouds rained, then some monk made a mistake, cause surely, we all aren't really stupid enough to believe that a window of heaven opened up and caused rain, we are all intelligent enough to know where rain comes from don't we?

Even if you go to another version you will find it just as broken.

Remember that science does not play a part in this.. it's just faith. However, when it comes to weather.. hand me meteorology.

First off, the King James could have been named the Queen Elisabeth, but she died before it was complete, so her son named it. It is a condensing of five other Bibles that were in use in England at the time. Queen Elisabeth wanted one Bible for everyone. It has roughly 20,000 translation errors. There was a Bible that came out some 20 years ago, which was suppose to be more accurate, but it was still classified a Version, like the King James, because they still used words that was in keeping with current beliefs, such as the prophesies of the Second Coming of Christ. The word actually means Presence, not coming, and is translated as Presence in every other place in the Version. If the prophesies are coming true, than it means Jesus has already made his presence known on earth. There are a few hundred other examples in it.

i believe in miracles, but not the way stupid sheep expect you to. this reality is ruled by cause and effect. therefor if you study a thing long enough scientifically everything will have a cause and effect, i think it possible that there was a world flood, and the cause and effect that i choose to believe is that earth toppled and realigned itself. it does happen every so often. our north pole hasn't always been the north pole. if the world toppled again and we got new poles again then the poles around now would melt at a great rate creating floods in itself and the huge change in weather worldwide would create a heavier cloud and make it rain more. so it would seem as if the whole world was being flooded. cause and effect. is this the event the Mayan calenders predict? or is it something else? wont know until it happens i guess. this is why the word of god lies. so therefor if the word of god lies then therefor god lies, i don't believe in a lying god
may the goddess bless all
blessed be

In the New World Translation Gen.7:11 refers to the "floodgates of the heavens" being opened.
In Gen.7:11 the expressions "vast watery deep" and "floodgates of the heavens" are both used to refer to the great water canopy that was around the earth in suspension and that is described at Gen.1:6,7 as "the waters ......above the expanse".When it says that the springs were broken and the floodgates were opened it means that God caused the forces that held the great water canopy in suspension to be overcome and thus permitted the waters to pour down upon the earth, not in any global splash but as through floodgates into certain channels, particulary at the poles, but also by means of rain for forty days.

There was no mistake here. Since God sent the flood Himself
to rid the earth of all the evil people of that time, He Himself sent
the "floodgates from heaven". That's the way it was.
And to answer others, there are no mistakes in the Bible..
you simply do not understand what is written and why it was
written. Unbelievers find it hard (if not impossible) to believe
the Word of God. When (and if) they become believers and study
the Bible, it all comes together and you then can "see" it.

No mistake. The Bible uses a symbolic language. The "windows of Heaven" or the "gates of Hell" for that matter, symbolize a passageway to a different plane. They are not actual objects (a window, a gate) because they belong to a spiritual and immaterial world.

Judaism and Christianity, like all other religions, are the creations of men. And since they are the creations of men, they reflect the time and place in which these men lived. The books of the Bible were written long before the science of meteorology developed.

And the error you mentioned isn't the only that is to be found in the Bible. If I remember correctly, I believe that the Book of Daniel makes mention of the Persian conquest of Babylon. It says that the name of the Persian king during the time of the conquest was Darius, but it was actually Cyrus. So much for the inerrancy of the Bible!

I'm also sure you don't say "sunrise" or "sunset" either, since you are so superiour to using *literary devices* as such, and are so intelligent to know that the sun neither rises nor sets, but the earth rotates in such a manner that half of the earth is covered in shadow.

I'm also sure the words "four corners of the earth", "rained cats and dogs", "time flies", and "waiting forever" never escaped your lips either?

That is not an error... earthquakes broke open huge underwater rivers, and I *think* somethere there was evidence that that was the first instance of rain... that before that, with all the undergroung water (which burst forth) dew and such was sufficient to water the earth. And beyond that... God can do anything. Whether we understand it or not. So, we don't get it... ask Him if/when you see Him.

The Hebrew is ארובות השמים, or window of the heavens. It's poetic, or it means one step higher than just clouds, actual supernatural downpour.

Do you know that people are continuously coming up with new phrases and terms. That I believe is a poor statement, because the person that wrote it wrote along time ago.

Didn't the word "record player" changed to "cd player" and even before that time I wondered whatt it was called. We live in days which continuously change. Sometimes other bibles are more descriptive than others. They are not all the same.
