to believe in a higher power,and to live ur life mindfully,to the best of ur ability,but not to rely on human intercessors(clergy) ,or to adhere to man-made dogma,or attend religious services.ur relationship to God is internal,based on personal experiences,not bcause a priest or any other religious figure tells u how to think,or behave,toward God.example-poetry can be ur prayer,creating beauty as a way of honoring ur creator....or,u can sit around and wonder if u should wear a dress or pants to church,fearful of offending ur clergy's dress code-which expression of faith is more genuine !?

That's a big question.

I think they're both tied somehow, but being spiritual is greater than any religion in my opinion. Just because there are so many religions out there. Who's to say which one is right and which one is wrong? You and I can't say that, because we don't know. We know what we may have been taught all our lives, but nothing has been proven to us in our lives as far as a religion goes, whereas spirituality may have been proven as true time and time again within us.

I wish some of you guys would answer my question that are answering this one. I want to get some more opinions.

To be spiritual is to put value in your relationship with Christ through prayer and reading of the word of God. To be religious is to place importance on laws or traditions. You can be religious, because you dot your I's and cross your t's, but not have any spiritual depth because you lack the relationship with the Lord.

A good example of being religious is.....going to work every day....I am sure that you've heard the saying that they do this religiously. It's doing something without giving thought to it. The Bible states "But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth." (John 4:23-24)

People attend church religiously (i.e., every Sunday) but do not have an intimate relationship with God. We must allow the Word of God to change us...our way of living. We can't allow the "leaven of the Pharisees" seap into our lives. By the way, the leaven of the Pharisees is hypocrisy. The leaven of the Pharisees is hypocrisy.

Hypocrisy is an acting as a stage player, feigning, pretending and the taking up of “another's statements in reference to what one has decided for one's self”. Jesus Christ calls the Pharisees pretenders when they sought a sign from Him, though He preached daily. (Matt 16:3-4; Mark 8:11-12,15; Luke 11;12:1) Jesus Christ plainly identifies their leaven as "hypocrisy" or "hupokrisis" <5272> in Luke 12:1. Traits associated with hypocrisy includes lying, guile, defamation, malice and envy.

Godspeed!

After sorting out natural first/spiritual afterward, then it's also "comparing spiritual things with spiritual";
http://www.godshew.org/HowbeitAfterward.htm

Law is "spiritual", but spiritual abuse
Grace is spiritual, but never abusive

And as if comparing a new and dead way (as in Adam[them: Gen 5] all die) with "a new and living way" (even so in Christ shall all be made alive), in the one "new" man part of old/new, of such notable "allegory"-ic "mystery", in the God "shew" notably written aforetime for our learning, to go and learn what meaneth I will have mercy and not sacrifice, and notably purposed to "shew who is the blessed and only Potentate", in his "times".

I believe "Spiritual" refers to ones relationship with God or a Supreme Being whereas "Religious" refers to ones relationship with an organization/denomination/church. I have met several people in my lifetime that were very "Religious" but lacking in Spirituality. They were in church every time the doors were opened, but could not tell you the last time they spend time alone with God in prayer or study.

Through believing merely in the spirtual world through spiritualism, new age, mysticism, or even eastern philosophy yet denying the existence of any god or gods.

You would think the existence of the afterlife would be a testimony for God!

It means not to bear the labels of any churches, but to seek for the One True God and submit yourself to His Will. This is the best thing for your life.

IMO, Religions convert. Being spiritual, you normally keep it to yourself and not worry about converting anyone to your way of thinking.
