Yes, if you negotiate it with your recruiter. They do not just say "oh, by the way, here is $20,000" (or whatever amount).

Yes. I know the Army does it, don't know about the Navy. My roomate in Iraq had it as part of his "CONTRACT!!!!" Now if you want it and the Navy wont give it to you because you just joined tell them to screw themselves because they can't do anything to you unless you get on the plane. Play hardball with them. If you don't get what you want: walk away. You'll be suprised how quickly they'll come around.

Now. The military will pay back your student loans based on your contract. Say you signed up for 4 years and they agree to pay $60,000 of your loans. They will pay 15,000 each year on the anniversary of your enlistment. They do not pay on your interest though, you do. If you get deployed there is a federal law that prohibits you from having interest charged to you so this is a little perk in the event you go to war.

I don't know about the Navy, but the Army offered a college loan repayment bonus program based on your qualifications. The qualifications were that you chose a job with that bonus AND your college loans were not in default. This was something that was guaranteed when you signed your contract.

You need to talk to your recruiter and find out if 1) the Navy offers that, 2) if so, did you qualify, and 3) if so, can you get it.

Navy- yes but it has to be in your contract. The classifier (not the recruiter) will work out the details with you. It happens at MEPS.

There is the Montgomery GI Bill that gives you money for college.

Here is their website for education:
