There's a big difference between leftist "tree huggers", who mostly complain a lot but don't accomplish much, and REAL environmentalists. I think you're talking about the tree huggers.
Those "nasty big corporations" like General Electric (wind turbines), Florida Light and Power (wind farms), and Toyota (the world leader in hybrid cars) are hiring the best environmental engineers in the world to do something about the environment.

Look, I'm an environmentalist, but I'm not extreme like those that protest. There are lots out there like me. It is true that all of those things upset some ecosystem in one way or another...so much so that they could cause the total extinction of several species simultaneously. But as a level-headed environmentalist, I do understand energy has to come from somewhere. The truth is, all of those things can be used if regulated (not protected form regulation) in the right way. That's the problem. All of those things can be used correctly with minimal damage...but it takes an effort...a compromise if you will...to make sure it's done as safely and efficiently as possible. That's were the problems come in...most Big Business doesn't want the regulations, laws, permits, and big brothers looking over their shoulders, so they can get away with more at a lesser financial cost at the expense of the environment. The two extremes need to meet in the middle. Plain and simple.

You can't stereotype all environmentalists. I'm all for wind farms, solar farms and nuclear energy. Hydroelectric is really kind of a thing of the past in America. I know China's building a mega-dam but I'm not real wild about those. Oil/coal/fossil fuels, I would gladly be able to get rid of using those. I think nuclear energy when handled correctly is an awesome source of energy. Just think how much fossil fuel we'd save if every vehicle was at LEAST a hybrid???

You're right. Unfortunately, you can't please everyone. I think the problem stems from the perceptions we are given by mass media. The squeaky wheel always gets the coverage. I believe most environmentalists are willing to meet in the middle.
Be as self-sufficient as you can. Use solar or wind power if you can where you live. Drive hybrids or electric vehicles when possible. Use energy efficient appliances. Plant trees, grow your own vegetables and fruits and learn how to store them and preserve them.Recycle.
All of these things are positive statements and ways of life that will help you and the environment that are easy to do.
Turn recycling and self-sufficiency into a hobby. You will be surprised how little things add up to big savings for you and helps the environment.
Best wishes.

- They protest windfarms because the turbines upset bird migration.
WRONG. MOST ENVIRONMENTALISTS DO NOT PROTEST WIND FARMS.
- They protest solar farms because the space the panels take up annexes the territory of desert animals and affects their mating.
WRONG. I HAVE NEVER HEARD THIS. LINK PLEASE.
- They protest hydro-electric because the dams affect fish mating habits.
ONLY IN CERTAIN AREAS. DO YOU REALLY WANT AMERICA'S NATIVE TROUT AND SALMON SPECIES TO BECOME EXTINCT?

John Kennedy said that we can have a man on the moon in a decade, we did it in 8 years. We need the same kind of effort to find alternative fuels and then we need to put them into practice. We as Americans are the most innovative and inventive of all the country's in the world put together. So all we need is an effort to put the oil company's out of business and they deserve it because of what they are doing to the people of the world.

Honestly, I don't really know what they expect. Your right though, every time we come up with a possible solution environmentalists find a reason to protest against it. One thing is for sure though, when fossil fuel really does run out and they have no transportation they will change their tune. Even an environmentalist needs heat during the winter.

Well we need to really take advantage of the flux capacitor not only is it a great source of energy but time travel is also a possibility...if it wern't for the oil companies holding the patent close to their heart, travel and environmental issues would be a thing of the past...

they dont expect you to drive your humvee five blocks to the beerstore and leave it running to keep the ac on while you are inside. Energy intensity has actually been going down for several years, partly thanks to those treehuggers, its just too bad that energy use keeps rising.
