you do realise becoming catholic involves circumcision, only kidding. becoming a catholic involves study and dedication its not the same as bringing a coat you bought back to the shop for a refund. all catholics must do 5 of the 7 sacraments, baptism, first confession first communion confirmation holy orders matrimony and last rites. holy orders and matrimony are optional. once the hard work is done and your confirmed your a member of the biggest family in the world 1billion and counting

I am sorry to say, but if you do not even know what Roman Catholics do in Church then perhaps you should not be leaving the Holy Orthodox Faith for the Papal counterfeit just yet.

Use this oppurtunity to get close with your family: share your true thoughts and feelings and ask them for theirs. On top of that, I would suggest doing some more study on both the faith you were raised with as well as the papist teachings. Perhaps speak to priests from both churches. Make your decision an informed one.

Forgive me if my comments are off base.

God keep you

They do the same things as in your Orthodox church. There will be a bigger emphasis on Mary, Roman Catholicism is famous for the cult of Mary excesses. Essentially, they are Orthodox. The pope is also a metropolitan, your group's top leader. Long ago the Metropoles were equal, with the Metropole of Constantine (today, Istanbul) as "first among equals". But during the schism of the Roman Empire there was a schism in the Orthodox church, Rome went its way and the others theirs. The previous pope did a good deal of reconciliation, so you might want to mention that when you tell your folks.

A catholic is a christian, any religion who believes that Jesus lived and died and was the son of god is a "Christ"an, Catholic Masses are very similar to other Christian theology based religion If you are so curious go attend a catholic Mass it's not like they will kick you out If your interest is still there I recommend looking into faith classes, thru your local catholic church which basically are there for the sole reason to teach people who want to convert to Catholicism......

what style of Orthodox Christians are you talking approximately? there is eastern Orthodox, Oriental Orthodox, eastern Christianity.... All of those are considered orthodox. it would rely on the denomination. while you're talking approximately fundamentalist Christian communities, maximum believe which you're saved by way of Jesus Christ, not via which church you attend. lots of those church homes have heavily contentions with some different denominations although. as an occasion, some believe that Catholics are in hardship using fact of desiring to accomplish specific responsibilities which contain confession and communion to be "suitable" with God.

Why not attend a different Orthodox church which uses English and does not slam cultural traditions down your throat?

Explain to your family that you cannot stand the cultural hypocrisy which exists and you want a time out to attend another church.

As Orthodox, the Catholics welcome you to take communion and you are more than welcome to partake of the BROKEN body and blood of christ - just make sure you tell an Orthodox priest that you took communion elsewhere before coming back to the Orthodox faith.

I think that you actually have no idea about the differences between this two major Christian churches. Changing churches, in your case, is like changing your apartment for one that is in the same building, on the same floor, but has a different view (not very different, though). Why are you doing this?

People should learn to respect other peoples choices. We are all doing the same things either catholics or orthodox.

We all pray to the same God. We all try to live by the same 10 commandments. Christianity teaches goodness, kindness and love towards one another. Most of us have respect for eachother's method of worship. So what's the problem?

It's ok if your family lives in a hole. A whole lot of people and small furry creatures live in holes. Its nothing to be ashamed of.
