As in Isla Margarita - just off the Venezuelan coast? Bottled water's dirt cheap so if you're only going on a short holiday stick to that just to be on the safe side, but build up a bit of resistance by cleaning your teeth with tap water, so you can have ice in drinks and not worry about eating salad that will have been washed in local water. I don't remember having any problems there, but then I'd been travelling for months when I passed through there so I had a stomach with steel lining by then I think!

i come from the Caribbean and lived there for and while before coming to England and i use to drink the water not thing happened to me but I've only been on four islands and the Caribbean has a lot.if you are really worried you should research the island u are going or the place because you never know. it also depends where you go in the world but I've never know there to be something wrong with the water in the Caribbean but it is best to check the island you are on.

No way, Jose!!! Make sure all your liquids are bottled and bought from a reliable supermarket.
I was at Playa Del Carmen in the Yucatan, and made the mistake of drinking some Margarita. Yeesh! I had Montezuma's revenge like no one can imagine- no fun on the plane too. Later I had to go to get tested once I returned to the US because it would not stop regardless of what OTC or other stuff I tried to take to stop the purging. The test revealed I had a dangerous amobea. I had to go on Cipro. Believe me, its just not worth being sick and having to be close to the toilet 24-7 when you are on holiday. Be safe!

Yes you can. I stayed there for a week and had no problem. Bottle water is cheap so buy it to be on the safe side. Three of us had no problems with drinking the water, but my husband did. But he has a sensitve stomach and ofter gets sick from the same food I eat and had no problems with.

Well you CAN drink the water anywhere, The question is do you want to. Why take the chance of ruining your trip. Even if the hotel your staying at has a water treatment facility I would defer to safety and stick with bottled...or have a Beer! I have gone as far as even brushing my teeth with a beer, and I got to tell ya its not bad.

I wouldn't recommend it - the water is piped in from mainland Venezuela and is very unreliable and often contaminated. But bottled water is very available and cheaper than dirt so there isnt really a reason to drink it.
