I need to buy a memory card reader to use with my camera and cell phone. The cell phone memory card has an adapter with it. I am very new to thins idea of technology and was wondering if you could tell me what is best to buy that won't cost too much. I don't understand all the numbers and letters that are attached to the descriptions of these cards. Maybe a website explaining the differences would be helpful? I al so have a Dell Inspirion 600m notebook if that makes a difference.

Get a card reader. I like the ones that read all different kinds of cards, as you never know when a friend will come over and you'll want to grab the pictures off of their camera- which might be a Compact Flash card or an xD card.

I like the Sandisk 12-1 card reader.
Or- you can get a really inexpensive one that just reads SD cards for like $5.

The easiest thing I can tell you is to sit down with the manuals for everything you already own that uses memory cards. Find and write down the types each take. Then, find a multi-card reader -- sometimes called a {number}-in-1 Flash Media Reader -- that has all of them.
If you don't want to go through that trouble, Sabrent makes a 52-in-1 reader that retails for about $10. It's external, so you don't need to open up your notebook to install it; and it's USB, so you should be able to get it up and running no problem. Pick it up from Tiger Direct or other computer hardware store.

If you are using the SD (secure digital) cards (about the size of a postage stamp) you can use an expandable pen drive. They look just like a flash drive, but they don't have the card in them so you can use the card from your camera or cell, if it is an SD card ...and they are very cheap...less than $10. They hook up to the USB port on your computer directly or you can use an extension cable that comes with the drive. If you are using a different type of card you can check into the various different readers, most should be available for less than $30 I think. If you go to a discount place like Fry's you might be able to pick one up for less than $20.
You can find more info about the different cards here: http://www.howstuffworks.com/flash-memory.htm
