You can teach your dog to do just about anything. Check in your area to see if anyone offers a clicker training class. Its lots of fun for both your dog and yourself. They you will learn have to lure behaviors as well as shape them and then the possibilties are endless. I have to clicker trianed dogs and my JRT can ride a skateboard, surf on a mini surf board and plays childs piano.

Try taking your dog to obedience classes. You local parks and rec department probably teaches them, or check with your local Humane Society.
It's best to teach your dog OBEDIENCE and proper behavior before you focus on "tricks" Teaching things like sit, down, heel, stand (great for vet visits) and STAY are essential for the safety of your pet in any situation. The most important aspect of obedience is NOT the tricks the dog learns, but the bond you gain between you and the pet, and the respect you EARN by consistent discipline.

There are lots of books on trick training. There are so many things that you can teach your dog it's nearly impossible to list them here.

Rollover
Crawl
"Go Under" (dog goes through your legs)
"Weave" (dog weaves a figure 8 pattern through your legs)
"Leave It" (while dog is laying down - you put a treat on his paw and he doesn't take it until you say OK)
Bow (head down, bum in air)

I taught my dog to get the paper in the morning.
Its usually on the front lawn, he runs out and grabs it for me, then gets a treat.
