If your dog is running after another animal it may be the type of do that it is. Was he a puppy or an older dog when you got him? Also has he been around other animals at all. He may need to be socialized more. See some dogs were breed to be hunters, some workers, etc. It may be what he was bred to do. We have a dog that seems "dumb" also, but don't let that fool you he is very smart but only when he wants to be. I think this may be fun for him...If you give him treats, especially if there is one he reallt likes. take it and hide it in the house. Let him see that you have a treat and I lay you odds he'll find it. Just put it somewhere that he can't just go right up to and get it. Make him work for it a little.
It may also just be an issue of needing to run and "having something to run with" If he gets along with other dogs and you have a dog park take him there and let him reun around with other dogs. Also, search on the comp. by typing in the type of dog you have. It should turn up results as to whether the dog is a working, hunter, water type dog, and may give you more pointers as to help him play happier. Good Luck!

I sounds like he is to smart for you if he is able to do these things. LEASH your dog. It is not difficult. If you do not know how to manage him, take a class.

What makes you think he is stupid?
Is it because he is disobedient? - just work more on his training.
Beyond that, I don't know if there is any reason to want to make your dog smarter - he is who he is, and there's nothing wrong with a dumb goofy dog as long as he listens to you.
None of the instances you've mentioned sounds stupid to me...
Wants to eat dead squirrel = it tastes good (they were once wild dogs remember).
Want to bolt out the door at every opportunity = I'm bored, bored, bored, and want to have some fun
Want to pull on the leash = my owner has not trained me in proper loose leash walking or taught me how to "leave it".

Is your dog actually stupid or just disobedient?
If it's just disobedience, sign up for one of those proper train-your-dog obedience courses. They are generally very good and help a lot.
If he really is a bit daft - well, such is life. It happens sometimes. It's like not all humans are equally clever - you can't do much about it. You can't make something clever when the potential is not there! As long as your dog is healthy and happy and you care for him properly, be happy.

Your dog has a hunting instinct. that is why its going after the squirrels. its not dumb, but doing what it supposed to do. in the wild this is how your dog would be doing this to survive.

A dog is stupid when his/her owner behaves stupidly with him/her.
Try to challenge YOUR brain a little more, it'll help.
