costs more

In one way it costs less, because you are not distracted by seeing lots of things as you walk round the store that you didn't intend to buy. You are focused on a list of what you want.
On the other hand, you could say it costs more, because you don't get the chance to pick up bargains like the fruit and veg and meat on the reduced section.
Overall I would say it costs less: I can never get out of Tesco without spending £100, whereas with Tesco online I only spend £60 or so. But you do need to take into account any delivery charges.

I tried it for a year and found it was worse than supermarket. It was fun and convenient (they loaned me a refrigerator and a shelf unit for my garage that they put the food into every week.) However when I saw what they were charging for the same things that I could go to the store for I lost my enthusiasm and cancelled. If you look at the food circulars that come in the mail and just get what's on sale at each store, that little bit of running around pays for itself pretty easily.
If you have a problem like a broken leg or a serious illness it might pay to sign up but it general it is a luxury that most people can't afford.

With anything, it depends on volume and frequency, and other variables. Do you have children, do you bring them to the food store? How much does the service cost? Figure if you drive an average of 15 miles during your trip back and forth, that would probably cover the 3 or 4 dollar fee to order on line!

Overall I'd say it isn't about the actual monetary cost - I'd say it's more about putting a price on convenience. Children, do chores around the house, so many things!

Overall I'd say it saves you.

In some respects it saves money, because I can see how much it all adds up to at the end and then remove things that I don't really need to keep it in budget.

However, often fresh food comes with a very short shelf life and if you don't take this into consideration, you can end up throwing food out and having to go out and buy replacements.

Also, if an item is out of stock and there's no alternative, if it's something you urgently needed to a specific meal, you then have to go to the supermaket anyway to get it, thus wasting your time and petrol.

I used to shop online because it does save a lot of time, but I find that the quality of the goods and the best before dates were often inadequate.

I think it cost more because of shipping. However, if you hate to be in a crowded shopping center,or have trouble walking around much, then you might want to shop from your private setting at home.

I think online food shopping costs more because there is usually a fee added to the purchase price of the groceries. I think this fee is usually a delivery fee. I do think however that online shopping for groceries will become very competitive one day. I would love to shop for my groceries online and have them delivered to me since I do not have a car and are on a very limited budget.

I don't think the person who said "shipping costs" read the question.

I find that it saves me money. We have our standard shopping list with various brands that we like of the same product and I can always compare easily what is cheaper.

Also, I don't have to worry about my partner's impulse buys. When we use to shop I'd get to the checkout and find all sorts of really bad things.

I think it costs more, you have to pay for the delivery, and I like to shop around, find the bargains, special offers, yellow stickers, and I don't think you can do that on line.

it cost more because they choose the food that will be going out of date so when your doing a weekly shop and every thing you buy goes out of date in three days you have got to go and buy more
