Yes...You're allowed hand luggage..but no lighters or liquids!! Also be prepared for loads of security checks! The smaller the bag..the quicker you get through the security checks!
I flew from NYC a few days ago to Manchester.
Also...wear shoes that you can easily take off...and don't wear a belt as it's a pain to take it off and put it on!!
With Duty Free.....if you're buying alcohol or perfume, you can't take them with you on the plane as hand luggage! What I did was buy perfume on the way out...and picked it up on the way back.
Have a nice flight!!!

Usually, one can take a small hand luggage on the plane if one
is flying. Because of recent terrorist plot, the airport authorities
have banned certain things to be taken on the plane for
security reasons. I believe that these measures taken by them
would be temporary. However, time will tell. In the meantime,
you should be prepared not to take any hand luggage on the plane for your flight.

This probably isn't going to be easy to answer. The reason is because although airport security may be issued with instructions, the variations between airports is simply appalling! They vary all the time! I know because i go through it everyday, and believe it or not, they are just as hard on you as they are us!
I would check with your airlines requirements, and then that of the airport.
Have a safe journey.

Of course you can, but you have to leave out the new things they don't allow to take with you. Check on your airline's website or Pearson airport website. They should have the list with what you can and cannot take in your hand luggage.
Have a nice trip!
