It means that whether you are in the church, synogogue, or your own home, as long as 2 or 3 people are gather in his name he is there to listen and lead the ministry being taught. That is the reason for bible study in smal groups. Sometimes a smaller group has an easier time of dissecting certain passages and expounding on it meaning.

There are hundreds of interpretations. One is this:
The spirit of Christ (that of God) flows from one believer to another. Gathering in numbers (as in a church) reunites God and empowers the believers He flows between.

Jesus encourages fellowship. Also if you pray in a group of 2 - 3 prayers are more likely to be answered.

He meant believers. When we gather in corporate unity, He is there. Of course He is always with believers.

Awww, that's so comforting. Really.
How nice to think that Jesus was with the thousands of people in the World Trade towers when they were praying that he would rescue them from their impending doom. I guess he was so busy enjoying their company that he forgot to save them. But it's nice to think that he dropped in to see them.

Probably that you don't need a huge group or big elaborate church, but it's helpful to find *somebody* else for support and fellowship.
