So it's okay to rape as long you're in a war? All our soldiers in Iraq can rape them as they will? What if your country was invaded, would you say "spoils of war" and shrug as some enemy was raping you?

The apologetic rationalizations here are pretty astounding.

There's even a guy here who doesn't think this says anything about rape.

NAHHH.. when god told them to KEEP THE WOMEN and ENJOY THE SPOILS... that didn't mean anything.
nahh...

It's not rape. Women were considered property, and a conquerer wins the spoils of war, but he has to marry her, see Deuteronomy 21.

Most believers of this faith would remind you that the Old Testament law was completed (and thus altered) in the new testament. These are the dictates of a Law-driven god. Jesus ammended the law so as to make such things evil. Only the righteous have such dictates. The forgiven are expected to be kinder.

You need to look at it in the context of the culture in which it existed.

That statement does not say anything about rape. It means that the men may take as wives and servants the women and children. Remember that at the time, women had practically no rights and arranged marriages were how things were done. Women obeyed the decisions of their patriarch as to who they would marry. This statement meant that in the instance of a conquering army, the virgins were given to the men of the conquering army to marry.

that part im sure wasnt written by god. The bible was written by man, inspired by god. The bible is not the word of god, you have to hear that by yourself. Its a pretty cool historical text and stuff. Plus you have to factor in all those crazies and fakes that THINK they heard the word of god just for personal gain.
