The Sabbath

The controversy over the Sabbath and Sunday has been going on for almost 2000 years, and the most accepted day for "religious worship" has been Sunday

Genesis 2:2-3 "And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. 3 Then God blessed the seventh day and "sanctified" it, (set it apart for Holy use) because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made."

The Sabbath, or the seventh day of the week, is well known to be Saturday. Just look on most calendars and you will see that Saturday is the last day of the week.

Gen 1:5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day."

Notice the phrase, "the evening and the morning were the first day." This shows us that God begins days at sunset, not at midnight, which is a leftover of ancient Roman time keeping.

Mark 2:27 "And He (Christ) said to them, "The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath."

Notice in the above verse it says man and NOT just the Jews

So the Sabbath begins at Sundown on Friday and continues until Sundown on Saturday.

The answer is obviously Sabbath (Saturday). There is only one Sabbath commandment (the 4th commandment--Ex. 20: 8-11) which much of the Christian world has forsaken in favor of pagan Sunday.
I and many other Christians still regard the Sabbath commandments as binding.
Here are some of the the Christian groups that keep the Sabbath---
Seventh-day Adventists, Seventh-day Baptists, Seventh-day Church of God, and more Christians who are interested in pleasing God instead of following traditions of men.
One can also look at the history of Rome and the Roman Catholic Church that instituted Sunday worship--names like Constantine will come up--to ascertain the facts of the man-made change of the day of worship.
If the Holy Spirit says keep a day, then keep that day; but remember that the God does not contradict himself.
Maybe people are listening to some other voice and confusing it for the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit will convict us when we break the commandments of God. Let us listen to the Holy Spirit instead of men.
The Sabbath commandment is still binding, just as the commandments that guards the marriage bed (no adultery allowed), guards our properties (no stealing allowed), guards our honor before our children (don't disrespect your parents)...

The Bible actually says in Ex. 20:8 that we are to keep the Sabbath Day and to keep it holy. If you look it up in the Strong's concordance, you will find that the Old Testament definition of the word Sabbath actually means a day of reverance, atonement, or service to God. But in the New Testament, the word means seventh, or a day of rest. However, when Jesus was resurrected from the grave, after his crucifixion, it was on the first day of the week; which was Sunday. And it has been the practice ever since. I am not saying that it is right or wrong, which ever day you observe to be your Sabbath Day; because every day in my opinion should actually be a Sabbath Day, as far as being Holy; or in giving reverance or respect and being thankful unto God. I have family members which believe in worshipping on Saturday instead of Sunday. And I respect their belief very much. I do not believe that God is going to hold it against you, if you worship on Saturday instead of Sunday. However, I do not believe that anyone should ever forget that Sunday should always be a day of reverance unto God; since it was the day in which Jesus completed the eternal sacrifice for our sins. The main thing, is to be certain that one is born again, or saved from their sins. And then they can be certain that the Holy Spirit will lead them in all that they do, if they allow Him to do such. This most especially includes when and how we rest and worship God.

God declares his weekly holy day to be the seventh day of the week (from Friday sunset, to Saturday sunset). It is called the Sabbath.

Sunday, as a weekly holy day, comes from the Catholic Church. Though many lay Catholics speak of Sunday as "their sabbath", the leaders of the Catholic Church are careful never to make that association. In fact, the "Catechism of the Catholic Church" states:
"Sunday is expressly distinguished from the Sabbath which it follows chronologically every week".

Also, Catholic theologians acknowledge that the Bible in no way supports Sunday as a weekly holy day; the Catholic Virginian, has written:
"Nowhere in the Bible do we find that Jesus or the Apostles ordered that the Sabbath be changed from Saturday to Sunday. We have the Commandment of God given to Moses to keep holy the Sabbath day, that is, the seventh day of the week, Saturday. Today, most Christians keep Sunday because it has been revealed to us by the [Roman] Church OUTSIDE THE BIBLE."

Though Protestants claim to derive their doctines soly from the Bible, as you can see from the above, in the case of Sunday as a weekly holy day, that claim is flawed. Protestants get their Sunday doctrine from the Catholic Church. And, again, their lay people mistakenly call Sunday "their sabbath."

God's weekly Sabbath is from sunset on Friday to sunset on Saturday. The Bible expressly states, "...from evening to evening you shall observe your Sabbath" (Leviticus 23:32).

The Sabbath has been God's designated weekly holy day from the creation of Adam and Eve (Genesis 2:3), and it will be so until Christ returns (Matthew 24:20), and beyond.

The Sabath is composed of actually two days. Friday at sunset to Saturday at sunset. The Sabbath has not changed and should be respected. Christians celebrate in worship on Sundays only because Christ rose on the 3rd day. We should honor the Sabbath and keep it holy AND celebrate the risen Christ!

Christians believe that Jesus fulfilled the Law of Moses. Therefore Christians are not held to the ceremonial parts of the Mosaic Law concerning of dietary purity and temple worship.

Christians are held to the moral law of God, some of which is expressed in the Ten Commandments.

The first Christians were Jews. They went to temple or synagogue on the Sabbath (Saturday) with fellow Jews.

Then they gathered on the first day of the week, the day on which Jesus rose from the dead (Sunday), with fellow Christians to tell stories of Jesus and share Eucharist.

Later Gentiles joined Christianity. The Apostles, filled with the Holy Spirit, decided that the Gentiles did not have to covert to Judaism. Therefore, they only attended on Sundays and did not have to abide by Jewish dietary laws.

Christians believe that Jesus' Resurrection has changed the Lord's Day to Sunday.

This has been the practice ever since.

With love in Christ.

Saturday is the correct day. The Seventh Day Adventist are correct. It will shock some Protestants, but they worship on Sunday because a Pope in the Catholic Church changed the day of worship from Saturday to Sunday. It was adopted by denominations down through the years as they organized. But, scripture in the New Testament says we are not to make an issue of the day people select to worship.

Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God.
Exodus 20:8-10

This is what my bible says anyway. Sunday and Sabbath are the same day.
