Just part your hair while you are doing it and do the bottom half last.

This is really difficult on your own. After dyeing your hair black you'd either have to cover up the bits you want red so they're not dyed black or the red wont show, alternatively, after dyeing black, bleach the bits you want red and carefully by hand apply the red bits avoiding the rest of the head. You're better off going to hairdresser, they've got the right stuff and the right equipment.

Dye your entire head black.
Have someone help you, because there's no way that you'll get the red straight by yourself in the back. Use Manic Panic for the red for very intense color. I've found that trying to put red streaks in my very dark brown hair doesn't really show much unless you bleach first. Manic Panic does the trick with true color every time, without fail.
Good luck!

you will need another person to help you
first of all dye all your hair black.
leave it for a week or 2.
then bleach the parts of your hair you want red and take the colour right down to white so there is no colour in it at all.
when you have washed out the bleach you can then put the red dye in.
make sure the red dye hasnt already got peroxide (bleach) in it if in doubt ask the person you are bying the dye from and they will give you any advice you need

this really is something that will be a mess if you attempt it by yourself, go to a salon and have a professional do it. Doing it yourself, you will not be able to get it lined up everywhere, and it will most likely be quite blotchy.

Listen to that stylist lady seriously ! I "trusted" someone to attempt colouring my hair and it just went horrifically wrong as she wasn't at all experienced. Trust me you have to wear your hair every day so it really will be money well spent if you get it done professionally !
