Why do parents always think that teenagers are always making smart a** comments? Sometimes the teenager can just reapeat exactly what the parents say and it is all of the sudden a smart a** comment? I just want to know why this is so.

It doesn't matter how smart a kids think they are.( and they usually think they know everything ) They need to accept the years of wisdom that a parent has. A lot of teens and early 20's go looking for a fight. Most parents get a little tired of the" your to old to know what i am talking about" line, or at least that how it comes off. I think if you drop the superiority thing, you might earn that respect you want. No one is born with respect you have to earn it.

Maybe the way you say it hurts them and makes them think you're making fun of them. Parents just want the best for you and it can be frustrating if the child or teen can't see that. We know teens are emotional and hormonal, but it still hurts when they treat their parents badly. Just try to be more understanding of your parents and what they are trying to do for you. Raise you right, provide for you, teach you all that they've learned from life. There's a lot out there that you could never imagine. You may think your parents are being silly or overreacting, but they just love you so much and want the best for you. Just hang in there you'll get through these teen years and try to be more understanding of your parents. Put yourself in their position. How would you feel if you had a son who acted and spoke to you the way you do to your parents. Try to think of them and their feelings to. They love you no matter what. Good luck and God Bless you!

its not what you say, but how you say it. It dosen't matter if you are repeating what your parents said or if you are just talking to someone, the tone you use says alot about the point you are trying to make. so if you repeat your parents words with sincerity, it will be okay, but if you do it snidely, you will be taken as being a smart a**

Depends on whether you're mocking or not. If you are, then it's kind of the definition of a smart-*** comment. If you were repeating it to remember it, or to ask if you heard them right, then you didn't do anything wrong but your parents misinterpreted it.

because when teenagers do that, their parents probably think that they are not treating them with enough respect. That's why they say that their teens are making smart *** comments.

this is because they are parents ans they want to maintain a certain form of authority over there kids, especially since they feel that teenage years are likely to be their kid's most rebellious years.. just cool it and ignore their smirk comments instead of arguing back at them.

Repeating it back is a smartass comment as you are now mocking and mimicking.

You can give a reasoned argument, but you basically have to admit that what you did was wrong
