Simply, motorists are an easy nick, why bother with the hassle of real crime when you can sit in nice warm car and 'pick off' an easy victim? You've got your collar so the chief super is happy. I remember once listening opened mouthed while a braggart of a policeman was telling me how they play 'snooker' with motorists- stopping a white car, then a red one , then blue etc.. And the filth wonder why nobody likes them and they have no respect.

It's because they are often short staffed and have hardly anyone on their shifts so it takes them an age to cope with all the work. The ones who sit in cars waiting for motorists are the traffic police.

I cant speak for other departments. I can only tell you what our procedure is. Our patrol units are on active patrol or active enforcement until a call comes in. That means they are patrolling their area or section of a given city or county. Calls are generally addressed by importance. Say an alarm call would receive a different response than say a barking dog or a loud party call. An in progress call would receive different treatment than just a report. A report would mean no suspects are in the area etc or a report made for insurance purposes.

With the current budget restraints, our department does not have the luxury of sitting in their cars as you say. Larger departments have tons of issues I know that from experience. We handle calls in order of importance given the circumstances.

Hope that gives you some insight

Because with a motorist, that can issue fines and make money. Going out on call doesn't earn the Government money.

The majority of these answers are a joke! Cops take calls when they come in and they are responded to in order of how serious the call is. For a dog call.... call animal control not the cops! They have better things to do! Traffic officers are usually who you see making TRAFFIC stops! Patrol officers answer calls. A murder is going to be answered quicker than a burglary report.

I called about a threatening dog that had staked out my front yard and had run me into the house. Police never showed, but when I called again they assured me they had hung a door hanger that advised the owner that it was illegal to let their dog get out. I should have shot the dog myself, then they would have been on my doorstep in minutes.

I agree with Doodydude234, the police always go after the little people because it is too much bother/danger to go for the big people who are committing serious crimes.

not all of us eat dough nuts.
There is a difference between Traffic cops, detectives, ect. There is a ranking system. The cops you see sitting in their patrol cars are traffic cops. You don't want a ticket. Don't break the law.

They're busy eating their donuts and drinking coffee! If they pull off when you call them for a crime they'll spill their coffee. Who you think invented the phrase "Don't drink and drive"?
