In this country, the Baby Boomers are specifically referring to those born during WW2. Because during war, there was mandatory draft, and men are being sent overseas. The thought was that the country would have a shortage of men, and thus shortage of babies. Instead, marrying soldiers and have their babies became a "patriotic" thing for the ladies, and more ever were getting married and have kids. (The rush decisions also lead to many "dear john" letters.) There were actually a siginificant increase in birth rates during that war. The kids born to that era were called Baby Boomers.
For a generic term of "baby boomer", check out Wikipedia. I don't know of any other country had a significant "baby booming" as the US.

"A baby boomer is someone who was born during the period of increased birth rates when economic prosperity rose in many countries following World War II. In the United States, the term is iconic and more properly capitalized as Baby Boomers and commonly applied to people with birth years from the span 1946 to 1964, which may comprise more than one generation. The Baby Boom is the iconic term widely used to refer to the American population and culture in particular, as post WW II demographics abroad did not mirror the sustained growth in American families over the same interval. Baby boomers also had the highest median household incomes in the United States."
The reason "baby boomers" are so often talked about in America is because of their prosperity. Everytime they enter a new stage of life, it's a huge portion of the population.

Baby Boomers is a American term for all the babies that were born at least 9 months after the end of WW2. I not sure but I don't think any of countries would have had a baby during that time frame. Mostly because all the countrie that faught in the war except America, had battles taking place in them. So they would have needed more time to recover, then Americans. Now correct me if I wrong, but I don't think Africas millitary faught in WW2. Was this helpful?

Baby boomers are people that resulted from a high birth rate at a certain time. I think it was the 40's because my parents are baby boomers.

It is a term for Americans born between 1948 and 1964. It was after world War II, there was a renewed sense of peace and prosperity. People settled in to marrying and raising kids. The cost of living was such that there were more stay at home Moms and they just kep't having babies. There was also a great migration from other countries to America because of the prosperous economy and the relative feeling of safety. So more people, more families equals great population boom. Other countries may have had similar population explosions but the term was coined for the American people.

The group called the baby boomers are the people coming into retirement in our generation.
The "baby boomers" are called as such because there was a HUGE surge in births at the end of WW II. As all the GI's came home, they of course got their freak on quite a bit. Resulting in one of the largest population surges the US had seen. It is primarily a US phrase. But I wouldn't doubt that the end of WWII brought about a population surge around the world.

It happened when millions of U.S. troops came home from World War II.
The country was in great shape and the ladies wanted to celebrate, too.
The "boom" lasted from 1946-64, and an echo "boom" happened in the 1980s.
