How is it that one can be hard working, polite, willing to work in a team, take good care of the customer and not be hired? And how is it that offensive, rude people can succeed so well?
I just spoke to the rudest, most up-her-own-behind cow, for some
CV-consultancy.co.uk and she was downright offensive, yet she has managed to have her own business! What gives?!?

I think it has to do with aggressiveness. People who are aggressive usually aggressively demand that something will get done without caring whether they're rude or not, while polite people seem to step back a bit in order to not be rude.
Think of a manufacturer that must get material from suppliers in order to be able to produce something. Now, there is a problem at a supplier and they expect a late delivery. An aggressive representative for the manufacturer will aggressively demand that the supplier deliver ASAP and keeps bugging them about it and pushing them and has the supplier running around trying to solve things fast and speed up the delivery. If the manufacturer's representative is polite and calm and not aggressive enough I guess the supplier gets the feeling it's not such a big problem that they deliver late and doesn't do anything extra to speed things up. They're not afraid they're losing a customer because the representative doesn't give that impression.
I hope you get what I'm trying to say.
I'm the polite type, but more and more I get the feeling that companies prefer aggressiveness over politeness.

She's probably rude and offensive because......The many years she tried to be polite, willing to work in a team and take excellent care of the customer;apparently failed her as well.
So she decided to take charge and run her own company so that she can tell other rude and insulting employers that brushed her off to KISS HER *SS!
I sat in two day motivational workshop at my job and their was the most rude, obnoxious and negative new employee I have ever seen who came right out of training. He did not even want to participate in the class. He should have never even made it through training. I'm willing to bet that he will probably be my boss in a couple of months and I have been their for several years.
Why ..........because of favoritism; nepotism; and he fits what they want(even without knowledge). Because that's the way it is.

Nice guys finish last. What you may think of as rudeness may just be aggressiveness or assertiveness to get the job done...these types of people focus on the goal rather than getting held up worrying about stepping on other people's toes. Don't sit back and worry about hurting people's feelings, step up to the plate. Of course, coming on too strong with rudeness doesn't accomplish a thing...you can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar. But if that doesn't work at first, then it's time to put the smack down.

This world is a demanding world. As long as companies know they have "rude, step all over anyone, rough people" they know that this person will go out of their way for the company to get what they want. They know these people are ruthless and some companies now want that. They know the companies needs will get met if they have these people. They offer them more to stay with the company. Thats life!

It's "Survival of the Fittest". This applies to business as well as nature. What you view as rude & offensive, may actually be assertiveness, direct to the point, get the job done without sugar coating.

It's probably connected to other traits like aggressiveness, and an ability to be goal oriented even if they have to roll over people. Also, they are probably only selectively rude- not to pivotal people, but everyone else- watch out. Sounds like my sister.

you are right -- a mystery hard to explain. sometimes luck -- some other times supply and demand for that type of service. re. polite, hard working, team-player etc...good on the inside but don't show it on the outside. i guess you have to play politics...
