I have the same problem sometimes. What I do depending on the situation I will try to call her to me and give her a good peting and hug and giver her lots of praise. When she doesn't come to me I will sit down until she is ready and then give her praise, treats help. Also one thing that you might want to watch out for is neighbors...I have outside dogs and when I leave for a bit and come back they are very "scared". I suspect that my neighbors do something to upset them. I am hoping that I am wrong, I am still examinig that situation and have yet had the chance to talk to the neighbors about it.

when did he wag his tail at you??? when you just got him???
or at the beginning, when he was a puppy???
because if, it's total natural 4 him not to wag his tail at you anymore, because now you're like his/her best friend now.
think about it this way:
when you meet a new friend, at first she's really friendly 2 u , right????
but after u become really good friends or have been knowing each other for a long time, she won t always act friendly, or welcome u super super super friendly, because u have become a part of her life, right???

Dogs are very forgiving....unless you have been exceptionally cruel to them... Then they will never forgive you
Give his or her tummy a rub.. say sorry. Then its all forgotten about. If someone stood on your foot,Would you take more care...
I know i would
dogs do the same they feel pain just like we do
of course hell forgive you

If the stepping on the dog was an isolated incident, she'll soon forget it. Dogs' memories are poor. Just keep loving the dog and she'll come back to you.

sounds a bit stange to me unless we are talking about a puppy as a older dog would have built up trust with you and would forgive quickly
maybe a bit more than a sore foot?

Mostly, dogs recognize owner or family members.
Especially, the one who raise him/her will be the favorite superstar to him/her. Besides, dog senses pure love as well as human.
Are you that one? If yes, he/she will easily forget and ask for your love again. Remember, dogs are men's bestfriends.

I squirted my dog with water accidentaly, which made her scared of me for a while, most particulary when I tried to catch her and appologize after. :(
