If you dye or bleach or perm or straighten your hair (in other words, almost any type of styling!) that will have a negative impact on the soft-and-silkiness of your hair. So if you can, try not to do these things, for a start.
To work with your hair right now, gently warm some olive oil between the palms of your hands and then apply it to your hair, particularly the ends. This can get messy, so don't wear nice clothes, and do this in the bathroom, as it is easier to clean up if you spill any! Then wrap your hair in a towel (one you don't mind getting messy) and leave it for a few hours.
Of course, you really ought to make sure you have nothing going on for an evening to do all this!
Then, after leaving it to soak in, wash it in a shampoo which claims to be appropriate for dry hair (even if your hair isn't particularly dry at the moment).
Then, when you've got your hair nice and clean, apply a good conditioner - again, one appropriate for dry hair. Wrap your hair up again (in a different towel) and leave it for about an hour. (It's a good time to read a book, during all this waiting!)
Then rinse thoroughly again.
Leave to dry naturally. No blow drying.
If you do this about once a week (more often, if you can be bothered!) it greatly improves the condition of your hair, so you should end up with lovely soft and silky hair.
Also - and this is just good advice to anyone - eat a sensible balanced diet with lots of fresh fruit and vegetables and drink lots of water every day. If you are generally healthy, your heair will be healthy too, and this all helps the soft-and-shiny aim!

Use Nexxus Emergencee. Its about 13-14 dollars. When you put it on your hair, it will be all knotted and you will wonder why you even bought it. However, keep it on for 15 minutes, rinse, apply a regular deep conditioner. When you rinse your conditioner, your hair will feel 100x better.

I know this is gonna sound gross, but... if you use a little bit of mayonaise in your hair in place of conditioner, your hair will be silky.
