What possible motive could you give me to abandon my father who loved me for a god whose scripture claims my deceased father is in hell?
Surely there are more comforting faiths for me to believe in than yours? And given that "faith" in unprovable, why not believe in a faith that deals with people more fairly than one that condemns good people who do not believe in the divinity of Jesus to Hell?

Miss Flame: My father was "unbelieving" in the divinity of Christ. According to Rev 21:8, unbelievers go to hell.

Salvavida: "You don't wanna go to where your father was, in all likelihood, sent." I have far more reason to follow my father who loved me than a god who would send such a good man to hell.

Pooh Bear: and how would it be "heaven" to worship the god who sent my father to hell? Why love a god who couldn't come up with a better choice for unbelievers?

Yes you should believe the God whom you cannot prove to have sent your father to hell. All the care you father gave you was through this God and God's hands are widely open to receive you. Will you? He do not force people to follow Him.

Perhaps he died with faith the size of a mustard seed. And in any event it says in Rev. 20:12-13 And I saw the dea , small and great, stand before GOD; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life:and the dead were judged out of those books, according to their works.
And the sea gave up the dead which were in it;and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them:and they were judged every man according to their works.
Sounds to me like you father may still inherit the kingdom of God if he lived a righteous life and was as good a man as you say he was. You will never know what your dad may have said to his maker when the moment of death was upon him. But you will always know he loved you and was a good man and father. If we are indeed to be judged by our works, clearly that should stand for something.

I'm sorry your father passed away, mine did also....when I was 14. What makes you think your father is in hell? I believe my father is in Heaven even though many would say he isn't. My dad was an alcoholic and drug addict and was very cruel when on these things. But he had a good heart, and he would give you the shirt off his back. According to what I know, people who are good and believes there is a God but doesn't serve him the way they should will still go to Heaven, they will just not be allowed to enter the city. Thats what I understood from the bible anyway, and thats what my very religious grandmother thinks so to.

It is important to understand that we must not attempt to build our ship/house while we are in a storm. Many people live their lives without having an intimate and real relationship with God and it seems that when a loved one departs from this life those left to grieve the lost will think about spiritual things i.e., heaven and hell.
The Bible has much to say about heaven and hell and it also tells us how we may be assured to get to both places. Therefore, people make their own choices about who they will serve or not serve. God has given us a free will...people smoke even though they know that they can die from cancer, etc.
As Moses delivers his final words to the people, he reviews the past disobedience of their parents that resulted in their dismal failure and deaths. Israel's future well-being is to be dependent upon their obedience to God's Word. Moses boldly declares: I set before you life and death, blessings and cursings: therefore choose life (Deuteronomy 30:19).
We must choose life...the God kind of life and then when a person dies we don't have to wonder where the individual is. We can rejoice that they are with Father God.
Godspeed!

Revelations 21:8
But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death
Yes there are a lot of religions in the world you can believe in, even non relgious groups, but they won't get you to Heaven.
The only way to Heaven is through Jesus.

It is reasons like this why I myself am no longer a Christian. Christians can say what they will but yes the Bible does contradict itself on more than one occassion.
Whatever you do don't abandon the memory of your father. He loved you and you loved him, celebrate that every day of your life that you had a parent who loved you.
I truly believe that faith and spirituality is very personal and not every religion is right for everyone, do some research into different religions, I'm sure that you will find one that just clicks with you, I am Pagan now and have many different beliefs that encompass my spirituality. Buddhism has been a great teacher in my life and has led me to be at peace with spirituality.
By no means forget your father and doom yourself to a life of torment when you want so much to remember him. Most times the greatest answers concerning faith lie within each of us, all we have to do is find them. Learn how to meditate to start and soul search inside of you and I can guarantee that you will find the answers you are looking for.
Good Luck and may you be specially blessed.

You don't wanna go to where your father was, in all likelihood, sent. You may think you want to go where your father was sent, but once you are on the wrong side after you are dead, that's it, no more chances. And you may be thinking, " How can I recognize a chance he might be showing me?" Don't you see that he is giving you chances everytime we answer your questions? We are working through him to save as many of his people as we can. That's our job first and foremost all through life.
I'm sorry, but the only way to salvation is to believe in the one that salvaged us, being God and Jesus. It actually makes a lot of sense, doesnt it?
You could be the greatest and kindest person in the world, but how can God accept you into HIS domain if you never were doing it in his name? Would you want someone to come into your house without them first being your friend? I don't think so....

God Loves you sir, Even jesus himself said to his desciples why do you call me good, only my father in heaven is good. We all think we are good in our own eyes but our good works are like filthy rags to god. Thats the whole reason why he sent his son to die in our place on the cross. We were all gone astray like lost sheeps because because everything we did looked good in our own eyes. But Christ died because the penalty for our sins in death. Not one man on earth is good or righteous and no man can save him self.We are not saved by our works but we are saved if we beleive in the One and only God Christ jesus. Jesus is an intercessor for the world to reach god the father. Have you ever lied, or stolen something, or lusted after a woman, and a whole lot more. then you are guilty, and you will either go to heaven and hell. what will you say when you face god. Lord there is no way i could keep all your commandments, no one did, This is not fair then god would say, I sent my only son to earth to die for you so that if you beleive in him you would not perish but have evalasting life. The blood of my son washes away the sins of those who repents and beleive. Without his blood covering your sins you are naked and guilty and as a just god I even gave you a my own diary the bible and you deny me. Now i deny you, i dont know you. Whats fairer that a God who died for his own creation. can't you see love. God is holy and we were all born sinners the day we came from out the womb of our mothers. Only a fool say's in his heart there is no god. Seek and you shall find.

If your mother teslls you to do the dishes, and you clean the entire house, but not the dishes, you still deserve whatever punishment she gives you. The most important command for us to follow is to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. If we don't believe, we deserve the punishment, regardless of how many good deeds we do.

AS I do not know the eternal destiny of you father I will not comment on that.
Why would you blame the court system for putting a person in jail who committed crimes worthy of jail?
You will only abandon yourself by turning away from grace.
