I don't want to write a thousand word essay here so I will only mention two or three things.
Remember that the war in Iraq was supposed to last only three weeks.
Arrogance and ignorance had a lot to do with it because this administration refused (and still refuses) to believe that the biggest dog doesn't always win the fight.
Also, I don't believe that this administration ever intended to find Osama Bin Laden because his family is very powerful in Saudi Arabia.

The war in Iraq is over, Saddam lost, an new government is in place. What is going on over there now is Civil War, in which we are caught in the middle. Bush never planned for this--go figure.
OUR casualties are light compared to what the civilian population has had to endure.
And by the way, things were going well in Vietnam. The Tet Offensive was considered a major military blunder, but politically it doomed our government, because the Secretary of Defense, McNamara, had just stated that the North had neither the will, capability, or resources to continue. This massive invasion proved him wrong on all counts. The Vietcong, NVA, and Vietminh, lost more soldiers in the Tet Offensive than the US lost during the entire Viet Nam War.
If we could keep the Iranian influence out of Iraq, the country would be doing much better.

It is not correct to call Vietnam a loss. It was also obviously not a win. It was merely a cessation of hostilities. We withdrew from Vietnam because there was no will left in the country to actually fight that war. I am a firm believer that we never should have engaged in that war in the first place, but that's just so much spilled milk at this point.
Where Iraq is concerned, If you think just over 2600 American casualties in 3 years is considered going badly, then you have no true concept of what war is really about. There is resistance in Iraq this is absolutely true, and there will continue to be resistance. Our position in this country at this time is not about eradicating all resistance. Rather it is about sustaining the newly elected government until such a time as they can sustain themselves. It amazes when people want to parrot the news media assertions about how bad things are, but never quote good things which are happening in that country. The news media always over reports the negative in every story. It's called ratings. Rating equal advertiser dollars.
If you think our departure from Vietname was such a tragic shame then consider this. To depart from Iraq at this point would leave that country in complete civil turmoil. I hear alot of talk from the left about our credibility on the world stage. Well if we abandon Iraq now we will have no credibility at all. You can believe as you choose, but for me this alternative is unacceptable, and it sends the wrong message to our enemies in the world. Freedom does not come without struggle. Freedom cannot survive unless free people are willing to defend it. Face facts, the world is not a nice place, and just because we pick up our toys and go home is not going to change that fact.

Yes, if a democrat wins in '08 we will most likely have a shameful end to the war very soon after.
We say the war is going as well as can be expected. The major problem I see is that we now have a goal of bringing American type freedom to a people who do not want American type freedom. We also have experts in dealing with insurgents who dealt with Korea and Vietnam. Muslim Jihad insurgents are nothing like the insurgents from those two wars. We need a new strategy, possibly just pack up and go home and see what happens. If we get another Saddam type that takes control we can just go bomb him as well.

We never lost Viet Nam it was politics that did us in. As for your comment about Iraq, It gets better day by day. The people are still afraid of the Militia's and other things happening. You shoud live here like I do. People still get killed everyday military and civilians but that is the cost of freedom. Watch what you say about us losing the war.

95% of Iraq is fine, there are only problems in a tiny part of the country. It's just like Katrina, million of people were affected, but the media only concentrates on New Orleans, so everyone forgets all the others. The media only shows us the bad parts in Iraq, so people forget that there is 95% of the country that is doing good.
The media tells you want they want you to hear, not the truth.

Strange thing is we are not hearing how well everything is going in Iraq. We are hearing how bad everything is, because our media needs and wants it to be bad. How can a liberal biased media tell us things are going well, they would be stepping on their own foot.
The good thing is there are still a few of us out there who realize that not all is bad in Iraq. The way we will win this fight is to support our efforts, and support the new Iraqi forces. We can't win without your support, and if you don't support us it tells me you want us to loose, and that is very sad.

Any war that will eventually lead to democracy in Iraq can be said to be going well because it will be worth it in the end.
Muslims are learning how to be civilised and it's a confusing process for them to go through. They've never had to organise a civil society before because there has always been some tyrant in charge. Some of them fear civilised living and they are trying to stop it happening. These people prefer the old ways of tyranny and fear to maintain security.

I support the war and think everything is not going well. Then again I have first hand experience and know the truth, not some media portrayal. You never know what's going to happen, but the troops cannot up and leave there, they just can't. Vietnam was a much different beast.
