Christians who are also Republicans/conservatives...?

What is your definition of "moral values"? Jesus never spoke of gays or abortion. He did, however, emphasize love in the form of helping the poor, as well as being forgiving (Matt. 5:43, "You have heard that it was said,'You shall love your neighbor, and hate your enemy.' But I tell you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you...). In other words, who would Jesus bomb? No one!

How can one be Republican AND a Christian? It's an oxymoron. What about separation of church and state (rendering Caesar's things to Caesar and God's things to God)?

When I give food to the poor, they call me a saint. When I ask why the poor have no food, they call me a communist.

I agree with you. I am a christian and i believe that you should never force your views on religion on anyone. We are all different and have our own beliefs. Our government should never tell us what to believe in. Every person on this planet has the right to decide what religion they wish to choose and how they wish to worship as long as they don't say hey i am right and you are wrong so you must either convert to my religion or die.

I haven't been able to find any true call to violence in the original tenants of any of the world's most common religions. I'm not an authority, but I've studied a little bit of each. A lot of the violence seems to arise from interpretations and extrapolations on the original teachings. So, the real question might be, "how can anyone be violent in the name of religion?"

There seems to be a large dichotomy between policy and practice.

As for Republicans and Christians, currently there are many extremists that receive a lot of press because of the popular media of fear, a strong trend since 9/11. This is part of the reason the US has taken a turn back toward fundamentalism, that is, a much more prominent religious influence in the development of law. Of course, according to the Constitution, religion is not supposed to play a part in law making at all, but again, we see this dichotomy between policy and practice.

The key element in these issues is the human factor. No matter how good the message, there have always been corrupt individuals that twist the message to serve their own ends. Now, in the US (and I think in much of the rest of the world), there is an environment where at least a little bit of corruption or shadiness is expected of politicians. This is a self propagating problem, because the truly virtuous individuals that may have otherwise sought positions of leadership are instead turned away to other endeavors by the stink of politics.

On a side note: You mentioned homosexuality as an issue never spoken of by Jesus. Everyone is arguing over whether or not gay marriage should be recognized. While Jesus didn't say anything one way or another, this is a definitely a religious question and should have nothing to do with the state. The real problem is the notion that the state should be able to recognize/sanction a religious sacrament. We've become so entrenched with non-secular involvement in the state, that we've lost all perspective. If the state wants to make allowances for two individuals dwelling together, that's fine. However, the state should not have authority to recognize any type of marriage, straight or gay. That issue should fall only between an individual and that individual's religion.

So, with some of these social issues, the real problem is that we're entrenched arguing over the wrong point. But what we need is for people to keep asking questions and looking for answers. Education is the best tool for working against these types of obstacles.

There are Bibilical passages speaking of laying with a man as a you would a woman, and of sacrificing children to the god of lust. (I will spare you the usual long list of verses & text).
You can love you neighbor and condem thier actions. IE: You can condem a murder, but not condem the criminal's soul to Hell in your heart,
Sticking strictly to the tone of the question, how can some one be a Democrat AND a Christian with their stands on Abortion, Gay Marriage, or even social services? Doesn't the Bible have passages that mention from each according to their abilities to each according to their needs? The Democratic interpretations of our social welfare system is the forced (not voluntary) re-distribution of wealth, and has moved from helping the needy to subsidizing the lazy and self serving.

Separation of Church and State seems to be defined these days as anything that suits a groups individual agenda at the moment. The US does NOT have an official Religion. Some accuse it of being unofficially Christian, but Christianity is not a Religion, and substituting Atheism for Christianity's alleged role would be no different interms of net effect.

In the rendering Caesar's things to Caesar, I pay taxes, but am finding that Caesar's tax collector wants more back than Caesar ever gave me, and wants to use it irresponsible ways for causes that I find wildly incorrect.

There are all kinds of disorder in the world and one does not diminish the other in terms or being a bigger proplem. Each one is as bad as the the persons ability to handle it.

The Bible tells you in Genesis that in the beginning was the word and the word was God and God was the word. Again in Matthew, Jesus said he came to fulfill the word!

In the Word, Galations speaks about sexual immoranity and thorough the the New Testiment it speaks about homosexuality.

The Word is NEVER wrong. God is NEVER wrong. The Bible is NEVER wrong!!!

A for politics, it is an instituion which will never work hand in glove with christianity. If a christian is a repulican or a conservative that does not mean he belives in everything that they do. We all have to chose or sit on the fence. Sitting on the fence will acheive nothing. Chose something you believe in and then take time to make whatever changes you can, one small action at a time.

If your Child's peewee team is not doing well because of a bad coach, will you pull the child from the team when he complains to you, or give the child some good advice and volunteer to help the coach?

As for separation of the church...please try to understand things in the context it is used. I am not even sure what you are getting at here...but ALL things belongs to GOD.

He gives knowledge and allows free will ... Without free will he could take from us all the things we don't need but want. The things that currupt us.

In God, there are no grey areas, just right and wrong. A philosopher is not a christian. And what you are attemping to do here is reason as one. (Like Felix in the book of Acts when he was talking to Paul.)

Philosophy give reasons for grey areas and supports them!!!

Christians can be repubican, democrat or independent.

When Jesus spoke of rendering to Caesar the things that are Caesar's.... Jesus was not speaking of a separation of Church and State. but nice try. IT is very tempting to keep God out of our daily life and place Him in a small box.

Jesus never spoke about beastiality so you must think that is ok as well.

Great point! I guess that in their churchs there are stain glass windows depicting camels gleefully and gracefully jumping through the eye of a needle, too.

Jesus preached a lot against rich folks who only followed the letter of the Law and not the spirit. Of course I doubt that many of His so-called followers would hangout with Him if they met Him today.

i'm a liberal Christian. this theory that each and one and all or maximum Republicans are Christians is a fantasy they themselves created to justify their attempt to portray themselves as God's representative on earth. One purely has to confirm the immoral positions they take to be certain that many are the different of what Christ taught.

Show me where is says in the Constitution the separation of church and state! You're a sick puppy. There are terrorist out there that want to kill you and you're wanting to make friends with them. It isn't going to happen. They don't like us and they want to kill us. They will not change their minds and make friends with us. I understand what your saying...the President is claiming religion for his platform on...well all his policies...well first you have to understand that our President is an idiot and will never make sense. As for separation of church and state that just refers to the government not being able to interfere with religious beliefs...basically the government can't persecute you for your religious beliefs but that doesn't mean they won't use their beliefs to try to influence you ;)
