should felons be sent to war instead of jail?

I've been to combat and would not feel comfortable with a felon guarding my back. Not the least bit. Besides there is enough in the military as is.

I have an idea. Why don't we take over some island, say Greenland, and rename it 'Warland'. Then all Muslims, Jews, Christians, blacks, whites, asians, hispanics, arabs, liberals, republicans, conservatives, socialists, heterosexuals, homosexuals, creationists, Darwinists - and felons - who want to fight (apart from felons - they have to go) can go over there and fight each other to the death in a game of total war, with the strongest winning. The rest of the world has to convert to the ideology / religion /sexuality of the winner, i.e. last man / woman standing.

Think about it! This is a brilliant idea. It solves the problems of:
1) Population control. Loads of people will die, so the world will be less crowded. More food and land for the rest of us! Yeah!
2) It will settle 'whose ideology is best' arguments once and for all. We can all live happily under a world dictatorship. No more arguments! Remember Warland? Survival of the fittest. Say no more. Ultimate social Darwinism in action. Unless all the social darwinists are killed, in which case they were just plain wrong.
3) Loads of felons will be killed so we won't have to pay taxes to support them in prison.
4) All the repressed anger and violence lurking under the skin of contemporary society will be released in a cathartic spree of ultraviolence.

Obviously there are a few flaws in the plan. If the homosexuals win then it will mean the end of the human race as reproduction will stop. But other than that I think it's sound.

I already heard that they are trying this out in some place called the middle east though. Big bucks to be made there apparently. Big military industrial complex experiment. Rad.

holy crap , ive read these answers and most of u people sound like you are 3 yrs old and hidin under yur momma's skirt lames. Now nowadays you can become a felon over petty bullshit . so my answer to this is yes they should be able to go to war , Not the heavy offenders such as murderers ,pedifiles those people should stay behind the wall where they belong , as for the felons that are in custody ,once they have finished 3/4 of there sentence and they have non violent felonies sure let them go . and that sums that up

Lots of felons are sent up on bullshit charges and could make it. We had plenty given that option when I came in during Nam. Some were great soldiers.

There are pros and cons in that idea. I'm not so sure I want to rely on a guy convicted of tax fraud defending our country. With proper training I suppose they'd be okay in some instances, but overall I say the majority are better off in prison.

No - Great Idea though, but they would give the US military a horrible reputation. Instead of hearing of a few incidences, you would hear of several on a regular basis.

Hi,, I agree with you,,, and I mean send the Axe Murderers,,, let them clear the highway of debris and bombs,,,, who cares... I say take those guys in Cuba and let them do the same thing,, they were going to kill soldiers anyway,,,,, who cares?? not me...
