one big meal really won't hurt you! but if you are that worried about it they sell pills called fat trappers/blockers at drug stores. be warned though because when they trap the fat it comes right out your butt! make sure you are near a toilet.

Well, I would eat smaller meals/less high-calorie food leading up to the event and then eat some of everything, but not a ton of food! If you really must overeat at that meal then compensate afterwards by eating healthy until you are back at the weight you are working on maintaining. If you drank water before the meal you'd eat less. Good Luck!

There is some very popular practice which britishers use to follow to eat as much as they want without overstuffing and gaining weight. they were:-
1.) After enjyoing their meal they use to puke and again eat and again puke so on.
2.) taking some laxative before having a heavy meal is still a good idea. laxative doesnt let the food to rest is your intestine for long so that calories are not properly absorved by the body.

eat very carefully the week before and try and loose a pound or two. drink water before and during the meal, to fill yourself up. As you eat each mouth ful savour the flavours and texture, and really notice what you are eating, stop as soon as your tummy says you are full. this way you will not over eat, and can relax about the weight gain as you will have lost a pound before themeal and can exercise and watch what you eat the following week. enjoy your special meal.

Eating a large meal on a special occasion (e.g. Christmas, or Thanksgiving) will not make you gain weight, if you normally eat a well balanced diet and exercise regularly.

Uhm, one meal isn't going to hurt you, as your body would eliminate what you don't need, but if you make a habit of this, which it sounds like is more the case, then that is where the issue lies.
Take a smaller plate, and twell yourself that you want to leave the party feeling good about yourself, then make that happen.
Control what is controllable, and if you can't handle this, then you are doomed, because food ias all around us, and most social events involve food.

Count the total calories of the big meal then do the equivalent
in the exercise of your choice to burn it off. Since weight is gained
in the hips and stomach you may want to do sit-ups and hip
exercises.

I suggest you limit your carbs and exercise an additional 15 to 20 minutes in the next 3 to 5 days!
