Not at all, The Ticket reader will associate the name as such. If your name was Kathleen and your ticket said KAT, its not a common shortage of a name so they would send you back to the ticket counter.
Not a problem.

If you called the airline before you left, they would probably say you had to exchange the ticket and pay a fee... BUT.. this is only to get more money out of you. From what I have heard, almost no one has ever had a problem with FIRST names at the airport, unless they are WAY off. Like completly differant. A commen nickname, like Kathy for Kathleen, or if a name is slighty misspelled wont present a problem most likely.

You have two options, you could just tell the airline when you check in that they messed it up and to correct it on your bording pass, or play the odds that nothing will happen and go right to security. Most likely the TSA will say nothing, ask for a second form of ID as a back up, or at worst make you go back to the counter and have them fix it for you.

It will be no problem. My ticket name and license are off a little like that and I have never been stopped.
