Bulmers is originally an English company, and is the largest cider maker in the world. It sells its cider in the UK mostly under its brand names such as Strongbow and Woodpecker.
Its Irish arm, which produced cider for sale in Ireland under the Bulmers name, de-merged from it many years ago but continued to have rights to the Bulmers name in Ireland. They aren't allowed to use it in England (Bulmers UK reserve that right), so they use the Magners name here.
"Bulmers Ltd of Clonmel, Ireland is not connected with HP Bulmers Ltd of Hereford, UK. Bulmers Original Vintage Cider produced by Bulmers Ltd of Clonmel, Ireland is sold outside the Republic of Ireland under the name Magners Original Irish Cider." - from the Magners website.

Bulmers is the name of the company in Ireland. When they introduced the cider to the uk there was a cider company already called bulmers in the uk. Somewhere in the southwest. They had to change the name to magners, there is no difference between the magners and the irish bulmers whatsoever.
Bulmers and magners are trade names not cider names.

They're not two different brands and you don't have your marketing mixed up.
I can't give you a reason but Magners IS known as Bulmers in Ireland but they are trying to change it to Magners here now too. If you noticed some of the TV ads now are for Magners so it'll be done bit by bit, to get people used to it I suppose.
Personally and not what you asked at all I prefer the name Bulmers!
