That's just a saying, you know. In fact when atheists die, they don't suddenly have "deathbed conversions", no matter how much it would relieve Christians to think that they do.
The better question is "Why are you so eager to convince yourself that atheists have deathbed conversions?". This is the second time you've posted on the topic, and I'll bet you haven't bothered to do any research to find out whether or not it's true.
I think that you have a sneaking suspicion that your religious beliefs are false, and you're hoping that if you raise this subject, people will jump in with all sorts of reassuring tales about how their grandfathers had recanted their atheism just before dying.
What you really should do is to take a step back and look at what you're doing here, and ask yourself what it is that bothers you so much about the fact that mature, intelligent, reasonable people don't share your religious beliefs. Why is it that you're so disturbed by that fact?
I think it's very reasonable that you feel that way - you can clearly see here that the atheists have the better arguments, and are better-behaved, as a group, than the Christians. If I were a Christian, I'd feel that raising the same doubts in me that it is raising in you. There IS a natural conclusion you could draw. Are you brave enough to draw it?
Scarlett, thank you for your response. I respect you for it, and personally accept the apology. You do Christianity honor.
Angie, your claim is a transparent lie. If you wanted people to believe you, you should have said "most of them" or something like that. When you claim that all atheists (that your mother saw) had deathbed conversions, you might as well write "I'm going to tell you a lie right now to make myself feel better. Ready?".

Oh goody, more useless propaganda!
It's a lie to make you feel better about your decision to believe in fairy tales.
Even so, let us suppose the Christian propaganda machine is correct. Your faith preys on the weak because the belief system cannot stand up to spiritual strength.
Who is not going to suffer a moment of weakness on their deathbed? If any "victory" is gained in a mans death, I think it's a pretty sad state of affairs that you feel the need to rave about it.
So there you have it. Either you're just plain wrong and believe a lie to make yourself feel better, OR you're right and feel like you've accomplished something by taking advantage of people in their weakest hour.
Either way, it makes you look like a schmuck...

I am a Christian, if you are then why would you ask such a hateful question? Your type of question is the reason, I am sure, that so many atheist believe the way they do. Why should they believe in God and Christ when Christan's make statements like this.
What you have asked here is just wrong, and, if you are a Christian then I will apologize on behalf of all Christians.

Athiesm is a relatively new concept and only in the last 20 years has there been a growth of the athiest belief. there aren't many athiests on their death bed because most of them are young ang under 50. wait about three or four decades, then you will notice more.

Yeah, according to the folklore shouldn't people all over cities everywhere be dropping like flies from Blasphemy and those repeated lightning strikes and such?

There are many Christians on their death bed as well; people die, and people are born.

Atheists aren't evil. Some deeds they do can prevent death penalty. Maybe they haven't fulfilled their mssion on earth.

Your implication is that religious belief is merely wishful thinking, rather than a rationally supported worldview.
I agree.
