I want to get a new dog but i have no idea which breed i should get. I want a medium size dog about 15 to 25 or maybe even 30 pounds. i prefer short hair so i dont have to brush it too much. I am not really familiar with dog breeds so any names or ideas would be apprieciated. I have all the time in the world for a new dog right now so a dog of any personality would be great.

Perhaps you'd be interested in giving a shelter dog a home. You can always go online to www.petfinder.com and do a quick search in your area with your various criteria. Then you can view pictures of available dogs from your local shelters. Please consider adopting a homeless animal - they really are the greatest pets!

While any dog lover will be partial to whatever kind they have, most dog books will tell you that Labs and Golden Retrievers seem to have the most gentle disposition and are perfect if you want a dog to lay at your feet by the fireplace. Labs have shorter hair than retrievers. Beagles are sweet and affectionate as hell but can overly excited. Sometimes they act as if their heart is going to burst they are so happy to see you after an absence. All three are very good with young children, which many breeds are not. Standard poodles have excellent temperments, but you will have to have the hair trimmed back regularly. In general, other breeds tend to either bark too much, are more difficult to train, have hair that is too long, are too aggressive, or have other issues.

If you want a medium size dog with a easy to care for short coat i would suggest a boston terrier or a pug. They are very cute dogs and they are ok to be inside and outside. Look them up on google to get more information and pictures. But be careful, once you see a pug i'm afraid you won't be able to help yourself and buy one.

if you work,I would suggest a breed that does not have trouble being left alone,or is not too hyper by nature also I would not get a dog that needs lots of room to run or is a working breed dog. Not knowing your lifestyle it hard to help, but, maybe a spitz or basset hound would be a good choice.

Welsh Corgi
Pembroke Corgi
Beagle
Miniature Pinscher

Look them up on www.akc.org

PS --> Scarlett H, NEVER buy dogs from a pet store!!! Those puppies come from puppy mills, where they are mistreated and they usually have severe socialization problems and health problems. When you buy from a pet store, you support these awful puppy mills. They force their females to breed constantly an dusually put them down when they are still quite young, just because they aren't useful for breeding anymore.

If you want to get a dog I think you ought to purchase one from a pet shop, I really think you ought to. I purchased myself a dog last year in May or April from a breeder and it is unbelievable how sick she was. She seemed fine when I purchased her, however when I got home and had a closer look on her I noticed she was infected with a sever case of fleas at its worse peak, she was underfed, she was incredibly weak and uninume, she had worms and later on she almost passed away from liver failure If I hadnt taken her to the vet in time for her to be on a drip. In amount of money I spent, it was over two thousand dollars on her medications, visits and not to mention stress, full time watching her and worrying. In pet shops, they keep a closer eye on their animals making sure they are healthier and most of their dogs come vasinated, which means they have had a visit from the vet already. Right now she is doing fine, but she did go through a hell lot of problems.

It really depends on your lifestyle. If you are single and energetic, a terrier would suit you. If you have children, labradors are loyal, intelligent canines. If you are single and scared, a Bull Terrier might be best.

Google for what kind of dog you would really like based on temperment, like my examples above. And please buy from a reputable breeder, and not those awful pet stores. Good luck!
