He is new at the place where i work, and started only 3 days ago. and on his 2nd day at work after a few friendly words with me asked me out on a date.

I was always told to give everyone a chance. I would go on a date with him. If you like him then go on more dates and if you dont just say thanx for the date but i dont want to get in a relationship anytime soon. Just go for it!

He met someone he got along with and liked. So why not ask you to have a coffee with him or something? Could be this is part of his employment game plan, to get to know everyone there (who he can get along with.)
