Good for you!!!! Put the b*st*rds out of business. My daughter never gets it, her life is "still" happy and fulfilled.

You can't really just take it away from them. You have to also think about how they feel. Try limiting the amount of fast food they have to once a month or something like that.

It's OK if you do that from birth, but if you let them have some and now ban it then you have let them taste the food and realise how good it is. That is unfair. So now, you can't ban it completely or they will sneak it from friends and do nothing but complain.

Discuss with them what healthier meals they like, and what they haven't tried so they can try a bit, and create a two-week menu which is changed every 2 weeks. This way you know if you need to prepare anything in advance and if they want to invite a friend over they can make sure the friend likes the food.

If you ban it completely, though, all that will happen is they will get friends from school to sneak chocolate and sweets for them, or will sneak out to McDonald's and Burger King with friends etc.

Yes, I think that in general that was fair of you. But on second thoughts perhaps you were a little too brusque. It looks like as if you didn't prepare them for the change. You changed it overnight. It was not a gradual change.

I understand that you are their parent, so you are the responsible for their health, and besides yours is the money. It is more reasonable to spend money on healthy foods than on medicines and doctor bills.

But again I think you should have done it more gradually and should not ban fast foods completely. Whatever is forbidden becomes attractive. Let them have it now and then, so they won't be too frustrated.

i know it has been said many times allready, but it isn't a bad thing at all as long as you don't let them eat it every day. once a week maybe a bit too much, but every now and again, as a treat, on a birthday, holiday or when they have done something good, something extraordinary, things for which they deserve a treat. then you can take em to fast food places. they'll look forward to going, thereby making it even more of a treat.
plus, if you make sure they eat healthy otherwise, and make sure they get enough exersize (either playing or sporting), it shouldn't be a problem at all!
so no, i don't think that even though your intentions were right, i don't think you've been compleetly fair with them

I only allow my kids to eat at fast food (burgers) about once a month. We do eat pizza every Friday night. I do know that the pizza is "home made". It is not a chain, but a mom and pop place we love. Fresh salads and pasta sauce-wonderful. I too want my kids to eat healthy. We cut out alot. No more store bought sauce, store bought side dishes and only fresh or frozen veggies. After my baby was born 5 months ago, I decided to get healthy. I have lost almost 60 pounds since she was born in March. How hard is it to make your own spagetti sauce or mac and cheese?

If you tell them they cant have it, it will make them want it all the more. You would be better sitting them down and telling them the benefits of healthy eating and what will happen if they continue to eat junk food. You could also come to an agreement where say you have a night in as a family every now and then and order a pizza. It will not do them any harm to have a treat sometimes as long as they are eating a balanced diet the majority of the time. xx

I think that is great for you to do. We did that with our kids. The fat content, the sodium, and just plain non-nutrition value is what prompted us to do it. The potential for diabetes, high cholesterol, and high blood pressure was also a factor.
My husband and I stopped eating at those places last year after we saw Super Size Me (the documentary). Now if we do have a weakness and eat a burger from fast food, we really feel gross!
I also stopped my son who has ADHD from eating fast foods because that is all he wanted and his symptoms have gotten a little more controllable.

Its good that you have told your children no more fast foods, you are doing a good job thinking about their health in the long run, maybe mum you should give them these treats at least once a week, so kids can look forward to this time, kids are very clever nowadays, they know what they want, talk to your children and explain and give them examples what fast foods can do to you, that it is lovely in the mouth but not good for the body, i think they need that, also try and keep them entertained doing more sports, cycling, footie etc, that way they will start thinking healthly, eating healthly stimpulates the mind the brain. It will not be easy trying to turn thinds around, but you have made a start, if they want burgers you can make the burgers at home at least you know whats going in them cook them in non-stick frying pan you can do it at home, instead of chips bake the potatoe and cut them into chips and then in the oven with a bit of olive oil. But preparing these types of meals takes time and dedication and alot of thought, there is alot you can do at home, i wish you luck mum.

Yes, very unfair. I never eat in those places either but that is my choice as an adult. Children will not understand that you are doing it in their best interest. I'd say you should make a compromise with them - say you'll treat them once a week, but don't also make eating healthy food a huge issue. Make it a natural part of their diet as much as possible, eg make fruit smoothies, add vegetables to every meal, get them to sip on water. That way you'll all be happy!

Many common natural remedies are claimed to have blood sugar lowering properties that make them useful for people with or at high risk of diabetes. Learn here https://tr.im/5yEBx

A number of clinical studies have been carried out in recent years that show potential links between herbal therapies and improved blood glucose control, which has led to an increase in people with diabetes using these more 'natural' ingredients to help manage their condition.

hi once a month is fine or make a healthy alternative. You sound like a loving parent I can't see your children getting fat/obese but let your children have a treat it's good for them as you need fat in your daily diet. Most people go overboard on their daily recommended allowance making eating fun not a chore not a problem as there might be problems in the future if your not careful good luck I let my children have chips once a week and takeaway every fortnight as my children are very energetic and they eat well fruit/veg
