From where does a culture get its beliefs and traditions if not from their religion?

well, not necessarily. there are cultures that exists that have traditions and beliefs that are unique to any religion.

for instance, my country, the philippines had a very diverse culture long before we were invaded by the spaniards, americans, and the japanese. we had a belief system (a god, a set of myths), ceremonies, our own laws with our own form of punishment and we had our own form of government....and that is before the introduction of democracy and religion.

we are now a predominantly christian country, but we have areas where muslims are dominant.

Well, I am from South Africa and I am a coloured.
Meaning, not a "black" South African, not a "white" South African...we are in betweent there somewhere!
Anyways... our culture is not entirely based on religion...its more based on our ancestors and the traditions they followed
