There are a number of causes for this type of rash. It usually occurs in the summer time. This problem starts in the early teens as increased hygene starts to be a requirement.

Teens start getting to the age where they need to bathe daily. Most don't realize this until they start getting this rash. Bathing (showering) daily or even twice daily in the summer time is the primary cure for this problem. Yes, most adults shower every single day and sometimes multiple times a day. Some teens don't realize this until they start getting rashes. No more just bathing on sunday.

Second cause -- underwear. Tight fitting briefs or panties with heavy elastic bands will irritate the skin in the summer time The cloth elastic bands aborb sweat which get's rubbed against the skin - furthering irritation.

Third cause - Fungus. Jock itch is a constant battle with some men (tinea curis). There are a number of antifungal sprays and cremes that cure this.

Fourth cause: Alergies to phosphate detergents. Try washing your underwear in "20 Mule Team Borax" instead of regular laundry detergetn.

What to do:
1. Bathe or shower daily. If this doesn't work, then twice a day (most adults bathe or shower every day).

2. Keep the area as dry as possible. During times of flare-up, sleep at night either without underwear or a loose fitting pajama bottom. Talcum powder usually helps in keeping the area dry, but can cake up sometimes if you use it too much.

3. Start wearing more loose underwear, like boxers or boxerbriefs made of 100% cotton.

4. Keep a tube of cortizone creme with you at all times for flare ups in social situations. Cortizone creme is the #1 immediate relief for this type of rash -- though it does little to actually heal it -- it does reduce and sometimes eliminated the inflamation and itching and burning caused by this rash. A quick run to the bathroom to apply a small amount to the groin area will save you from walking funny in front of your friends.

5. If you this doesn't cure it, try some of the jock itch rememdies. Some of the Athlete's foot rememdies are also for jock itch if you read the directions. Spray powders always seem to work best in this area, but be careful to spray this stuff in a well ventilated area -- the stuff has some powerful fumes.

6. Try 20 Mule team borax on your underwear during laundry instead of Tide or a some other detergent. Usually if you have reactions in your groin due to reactions to laundry degergents, you likely also have rashing and burning under the arms. You need to switch to a hypoallergenic deoderant and you'll perhaps need to stay clear of polyester shirts and clothing. Polyester slacks will really cause this problem to flare up.

If all else fails: See a doctor. He may prescribe Lamisil tablets to fight any fungus and give you a stronger cortizone creme.

We get rashes in the pelvic region because of lack of hygiene in general. Another factor is that the sweat produced in the groinal region is different to that of the rest of the body. It is more viscose than any other around the body and can create an abrasive environment. My suggestion to cure this problem would be take a shower and apply Sudocrem liberally to the affected area. http://www.sudocrem.co.uk/

Butt Paste! it worked wonders on my son. I've used desitin also, but had faster luck with buttpaste. Sounded so funny when someone told me to get it. Its in the same section as all of the other diaper rash creams, but worked amazingly fast! And its thicker then some, so it stays on them a little better i think.
