I had prawns yesterday for the first time in my life and my eyes swole up, it had rashes all over and a severe headache. I am OK with fish but I have never tried crabs. Is it advisable to do so?

Thanks all for your comments. Well, my dad is a doctor, so I guess medical consultation wont cost a LOT. I just didn't want to freak him out or something. I guess I'll try crabs and see. By the way, whats SHELLFISH?

You may, but in small amounts, please observe your reaction within a day, if negative, then try another shellfish.

I think prawns contain a high level of iodine, shell fish is things like prawns, mussels, clams, oyesters, anything with a hard shell, crab and lobester would also be considered shell fish.
Try a small amount if some else orders these dishes, and see if you have a milder reaction, then you will know you are allegic.
I love these foods but it's like playing russian roulette... too much and I pay the price like you!
Check with you Dad sounds a good idea and not expensive either.

No hun,
Theres something in the prawns that makes you allergic to them. Like in peanuts, most people are allergic to them but they can still eat other nuts like walnuts and macadamia nuts etc. If your worried go down to a doctor and explain your issue with them. But my opinion is that you wont be allergic to any other seafood,
xxx good luck

The way I see it is you can try it two ways.
1. Go to and Allergist and be tested. This will cost you.
2. Eat shellfish and hope it doesn't kill you.
So, pay with your wallet or, pay with your life. The choice is your.
