By going to a doctor, usually. Are you talking specifically about skin cancer? If that's what you mean, check your body over thoroughly using a mirror to view back and hard to see parts, part the hair and look at the scalp, soles of feet also. I try to pay attention to the areas that I know have gotten the most sun over the years, like if you've worn your hair short for most of your life, you'll want to keep an eye on your ears...(lol).
Other cancers, unless there is a specific history for them, just follow your doctor's guidelines. You can go online and look up how to check your breasts monthly; GI problems, regularly scheduled colonoscopies after a certain age or sooner if family history is present. There are so many different forms of cancer, I'm not sure really what you're after here.

There are suppose to be dogs that can sniff out cancer before a MRI shows it. My feeling is.. if you get it you get it, and there is little you can do about it. I would suggest you don't smoke. That can't be good for you.
