i have been there for many births and i find its best to leave the kittens, the mother may not eat them but she will disown them and not care for them as required. also give the mother lots of love when she has given birth cos you need to let her know you still love her not jut the kittens! i usually wait a few days before i touch the kittens just to make sure the mum is at ease with the kittens and she has bonded with them. good luck and im so jealous i want kittens!

my cat had her kitten about 9 weeks ago .. when she was having the kitten she kind of called for my help .. and when the kitten is born I took her and cleaned her since the mom did not know what to do .. it was the first time she has babies .. and later on my assistance was needed too since the kitten was too small and could not reach her mom’s nipple so I had to guide her and place her on the nipple .. so I was there all the time and my cat never complained from me holding the kitten or even taking it away to show to visitors but I made sure no one but me touches the kitten ..
I guess it depends on the relationship between you and your cat .. if she trusts you and lets you help in her having the kitten .. hope you could do that it is really a great experience and something you could not understand until you feel it!!!

It's safer not to touch them, I think. I've heard that cats sometimes eat or more often abandon their kittens if humans touch them. There are exceptions, though. When my cat had her three ones - it was the first time she'd had kittens - she was so confused that she'd actually come to me and lead me to their basket and give me puzzled looks - 'What are these? What am I supposed to do with them?'. I'd put her in, stroke her and the kittens and talk to her reassuringly to let her know everything was fine. Her motherly instincts started showing a few days later and still she was quite confused about many aspects of motherhood. Actually, it was my bf who taught her how she can carry the kittens from one place to another :) I'd always thought cats just knew how to do these things instinctively...

I have never seen a cat eat her kittens....Now if your mama cat is a nice kitty, and not nervous she will let you touch them...If she is a nervous mama she will just move her babies if she doesnt want anyone to touch them...It ok to touch, shes not going to eat them....

Best thing to do is to pet the mother always before petting the kittens..Don't lift them... just pet them .

It's probably better to wait awhile, like a week
