You probably have wrong position either where you are siting and working longer periods or generally wrong posture.
Please lay on the floor with your legs in 90 degree on the chair. This relax all your back in 5 minuets.
Relax more because this is typical stress symptom.
Good luck

Google "ergonomic exercises" and you will find physiotherapy type exercises you can do. Or your Dr. should have a photocopy of similar things. You may need a new computer chair or table, it may be the wrong height for you.
Try ibuprofen such as Neurofen; or simply fill a cloth bag long enough to lie across your shoulders with rice (brown or white), sew it shut, heat it for a minute or 2 in the microwave and lay it across your shoulders and neck. The deep heat will help. You can use a man's long cotton sock for this (make sure it's 100% cotton, no elastic!!) or use a piece of pillowcase or sheeting.
You're probably spending too long at the keyboard; remember to stand up every half hr or so, stretch and move around a little.

I do. I use a tens machine for my shoulder and neck pain because it stems from a muscle there.
It depend on what kind of pain it is. Could be stress related because that causes a lot of pain around that area too.
I see a physio once a month so you are probably best off going to talk to one of them. Go private if you can afford it, or your GP should be able to refer you if you don't mind waiting a while.

Check with your doc next time you are there to make sure you ain't torn a muscle around there. Adjust your sleeping position to the opposite of what it usually is (as long as you can get comfortable). And most importantly exercise the area daily to loosen the muscles and joints (massage wont do this). Stand with your feet a shoulders width apart, back straight and shoulders back. Tilt your chin down to your chest slowly, then tilt your head back as far as you can (about 10 times in each direction) Then move your head from side to side as though you are waiting at a junction and watching for traffic, keeping your head level and pausing for a second at each side. Lastly tilt your head side ways towards your shoulders, imagine you are trying to touch your shoulder with your ear, but don't lift your shoulder just let your head tilt from side to side gently. If you do these exercises slowly and gently every day (you can do them sitting at your PC if get 5 Min's) you will feel your neck loosening off and becoming more flexible.

I have regular neck pain. Try taking a hot shower, massage the neck and head. If this does not work, try voltaren pomade and rub it for a while. Put some clothing to the area to keep it warm.

I am on Flexeril muscle relaxer, and Ultram for pain. Not much helps but I use a heating pad with a wet cloth between it and my skin, a hot shower or a soak in a deep tub. Back rubs or massages are good.

I recommend going and getting a massage! It will release the lactic acid build up in your muscle and help you relax.

Cheap alternative!!!!
An epsom salt bath... you can get the salt for $.99 at walmart or the market.

The bath salts at the store that you see are the same thing just with pretty scents.

Epsom salt is a chemical called Magnesium Sulfate... Makes skin soft and draws out toxins in the body (lactic acid).

Take a hot bath, candles, and soft music.
I swear it works

Lay on your bed with a pillow right in front of you. Get on your knee's and put your head on the pillow, with your butt sticking in the air. Most women find this a good home pain reliever when they have period cramps. It tilts the uterus. Hope this helped. :) NEVER use a hot water bottle. You should use a heating pad and take a pain reliever. Midol or tylenol might work.

I sometimes get back and neck pain and i have a heated pad that i put on it for a little while. My mum used to heat a large potato in the microwave and when it was hot wrap it in a teatowel then apply it to achy area.
