You should not just lay there you should get up out of bed but not do anything stimulating or drink anything stimulating then when you feel tired again go back to bed and try to sleep. It is better not to take meds as you may become reliant on these to aid sleep it is better totry things such as a lavender bath a milky drink some reading until you fall asleep filling your eday up so that you are tired enough to sleep at night do not nap in the day as this will alter your body clock.Write down your worries on a piece of paper and leave them there so you mind is not ticking over your worries instead of sleeping. Ask your gp to refer you to a sleep therapist who can help teach you techniques to aid sleep.Hope this helps.Medication should be a last resort!

Just laying there wide awake all night won't work, believe me!
Meds are only good in the short term and as a last resort.
The best way to get into a good routine is to do the same things every night, warm bath or shower, warm milk, something to relax you. Don't exercise for awhile before retiring, don't read, don't watch any exciting tv shows....and go to bed the same time every night, get up the same time every morning, even on the weekends. This way you should develop a good sleep routine. I say "should" because it's "supposed" to work...I've tried it all and now I just get by on a few hours of sleep in the early mornings.

No meds. But if you don't sleep, after a half hour or so, go up,walk a bit, drink a bit of water, read something for a short time, and then try again.

My husband prefers to just lay there.
If I can't sleep, I usually get up and go watch tv. I never take medications. I have tried sleepytime tea and it works quite well. Although I do have to pee halfway through the night.

alot of times when I cant sleep its usually because i have alot of stressful stuff going on and my brain is racing with all the stuff i need to do or how to possibly handle situations... so ive learned if i get up and sit and write down all the stuff that is flying around in my head. get it all out, usually only takes me a max of 30 min. i feel better and can then go to sleep.

Not enough info to assess...I would see a Dr and ask them...I suffer from insomnia and meds dont even work for me but they might work for you. Practice relaxation techniques too.

Good luck!
