False old wives tale. eat and swimming have nothing to do with each other. In sapace there is zero G and they seem to be able to eat and do their job just fine.

True.. it is even more unhealthy to eat before you jump into the pool for a dip. This is the number 1 cause of drowning.

I had heard that it wasn't safe to eat just before going into the water and a year or two ago it is said that there is NO truth to that saying. The answer is FALSE

It may indeed-be unwise to SWIM and eat at the same time. You may ingest water with the food and choke.

One you can choke, pass out, then drown.

But the reason why they tell you not to eat before swimming is the following:
During digestion your body shunts blood to your GI tract away from your muscles to absorb the nurtients that you just ate.

Not enough blood in the muscles decrease oxygen delivery, which decreases muscle strength, which causes cramping and fatigue... you can no longer swim... and can die....

I've never heard that.I've heard that you should wait to get in after eating,but I think that's for people with weak stomachs.
