Our planet is not a closed system with finite resources. We recieve massive amounts of energy from the sun everyday. This amount is massive when compared to the relatively small amount humans use. We also receive a continual supply of new material from meteorites and comet debris. Energy efficient housing makes sense because we pay less for our energy bills.

we live on a finite planet, with finite resources.
Human society can only continue by reducing consumtption to a level where the energy used is less than that received at any point in time.
As the only energy earth receives comes from the sun we need to make significant (probably 90%) savings to wean ourselves off the ancient sunlight energy stored as finite fossil fuels
