you sound like Agent Smith at the Movie MATRIX
So I reply your question by the words of Neo:
"Because this their choice.."

A couple of case examples as to the types of things you are talking about would useful in aiding the response to your question.
But my answer would be for many people the wrong thing that they are doing is not something that they want to do it's something that they just don't have enough will power to say no to, or the forescene consequences of said behavior/actions seem insignificant to the emotional or physical satisfaction of participating in the behavior they know is wrong.
When an urge to do this thing comes up it's easy to say this will be the last time and then I'm done forever. Then a couple days or even a week passes and you faced with the same choice again you can have some fun one last time again, and be done forever again. Or say tell yourself no way. It's a constant struggle and it takes a lot of energy to continually say no and deny yourself what you know would make you very happy.
Of course another reason is not to feel good, but to forget about something that makes them feel bad which is pretty much the same thing I guess since if the person already felt great they might not seek out/participate in destructive behaviors/actions.

Do they really believe what they are doing is wrong? or do they have a psychological and or physical addiction to what they are doing?an obsession with this wrong and a compulsion to carry out this wrong to achieve self satisfaction.Do they have a conscience? It is all about weighing up what is good or bad for you and keeping self control and maintaining boundaries which only comes by being taught these things at a young age by parent/s.

Addiction or illness? Temptation or pain?
Why are some people alcoholics? Why do some people use drugs? Why do some people disfigure themselves?
Is it because they don't have any other way to deal with their daily pain?
Why do some people gamble? Why do some people shop endlessly? Why do some people have unprotected sex?

Perhaps sometimes some people have trouble understanding themselves. They might have trouble understanding themselves well enough to fully realize they need to stop a particular bad habit.
Perhaps it is some kind of psycological fixation.

Because most people are born to be hard-headed! And most of these people will keep on doing things until they experience something that they cannot take anymore - and that's when they will stop doing it.

Neurobiotaxis. They don't actually *want* to do it again, but it becomes the most likely response.

They are a type of masochist deviants. They want to be rebuked and abused always. In their subconscious mind they enjoy being scolded and being at receiving end.
