I am 28, have 3 kids and the baby has been sleeping through the night for 4 months. I try to take care of myself. I eat right, drink plenty of water, walk 2 miles at least 3 days a week. What can I do. I am breastfeeding so I am hesitant to take anything. I am stressed, but no more than usual. Please help. Sometimes I can only sleep a couple hours a night. I have a doctor's appointment, but it is a month away. I have tried sending my husband to the couch, that has not worked yet. The kids sleep thru the night-not me. I have to get up by 6 every morning so my daughter can catch the bus. By the time I tend to a 3 year old and a 5 month old, walk, cook, do chores, etc., I'm worn out. By 8, I'm ready for bed. the second I get into bed, my eyes pop open. I turn the tv on, then I turn it off and back on. Any advice will be helpful. Thanks.

When I can't sleep, I do controlled breathing while lying on the bed and consciously relaxing all of my muscles. Kind of like the breathing that you do in child labor. If your mind keeps staying busy with the thoughts of the day, try to concentrate on something else like colors or all the names you can think that begin with A, then B and so on. Hope this helps ;-) Good luck!

For starters, stop stressing the little stuff, chores don't have to be done every single days, and you husband is capable of doing the dishes once in a while. . But you shouldn't be going to bed before 10 pm if you don't need to get up before 6 am. You may actually be getting too much sleep, but only in spurts. You need to sit and relax for about an hour before going to bed to give your body a chance to wind down,Then, have a glass or warm milk before bed, accompanied by a Tylenol or ibuprofen if you feel any pain whatsoever. and try reading book in bed. that will help you relax even more

I would call the doctor and see if taking Advil or Tylenol PM would have an effect on your breastmilk. They are very effective and have worked for me, but I was not breastfeeding. If it helps at all, I understand. I am a single mom of two, working fulltime and going to school, so I don't get the sleep that I need.

Have some herbal tea before bed and avoid caffine four to five hours before bed.

Hi
It is important to cut out caffeine after 5pm and do not eat anything for a few hours before bedtime. It is important for you to get checked out at the Drs. Depression can cause the symptoms you are experiencing. I would reccomend you eating foods with serotinin in them naturally to boost mood, such as bananas and warm milk. Lavender oil is meant to aid relaxation also. I thing you must have the oportunity to relax soon as it is damaging to your health. I think you have problems switching off from your day as you are so busy and probably worrying about taking care of everything. Resting in a dark room for a few hours and slow breathing can help if you cant sleep. The tv wont help as it stimulates. adrenalin.Make some relaxation time for yourself asap!

Relax. Try to stay up all night tonight. Make sure you don't sleep a wink. You'll see that sleep will catch up with you the next night.

Don't get stressed over sleep; it's supposed to relax you not stress you.

Another idea:
Lie in a quiet place and listen to your thoughts. Slow them down. Then turn them off.

It seems like you might have ADD. Are you a worry bug and are you always thinking about things that you need to get done. Do you have anxiety? I recommend that you stop breast feeding at six months and talk to a psychiatrist about this problem.
