and good Christians always turn out to be some of the most judgemental,backbiting,petty,selfish,snide gossips out there?I'm a Christian and my spirituality is VERY important to me,but I don't judge others and I don't pretend to be perfect! It's always the "holier than thou" individuals that turn out to be the worst!Why is that?

I know it irriteates me too. Thats why Im Methodist. Some churches like JW are way too legalistic plus a cult that can be dangerous They dont believe in the trinity then avoid them! My X was abusive and chauvanistic and he goes to church all the time. He should learn something! this one treats me better and only goes once a year with me.....sweetness counts...

It's because in order to survive, a religious belief system must attract and retain adherents, and one of the most important strategies that has evolved for doing so involves making adherents feel as though they're special - morally superior, or in touch with some special rare truth. Since the religions need lots of people, and therefore can't just attract people who really ARE special, they have to have some way of convincing normal and even less-than-normal people of these things, and one of the best ways to do that is to run other people down. That's why so many Christians are so eager to attack atheists, as well as people of other faiths.

A religion could be tolerant, but all other things being equal, such a religion would disappear over time. It'd need some other trick for attracting and retaining adherents, and it'd have to be a really good one to compensate for the power of intolerance.

I've started to notice the atheist and other none believers seem to be the worst at judging and feeling like they know something more so than any religious person I've ever meet. I wish they would quit contradicting themselves and not care about anything like a good none believer.

You are judging those people right now!Even by saying they are judgemental!Unfortunately you cant change everybody and not everybody will take their relationship with the Lord seriously, but its up to you to keep your focus on God and to remember that we are each accountable for our own actions eventually!Jesus was a friend even to the sinners and thats why its wrong to be judgemental!Just keep yourself accountable and keep serving God!Sounds like you are doing good though!

Because they don't have the spirit of Christ. Infact they still conform to the world and to how humanity is whilst it is affected by sin. I have a hard time dealing with sin myself, I often find myself proud and selfish etc... But if you become dead in Christ, you will lose all evil character traits and you will be eligible for the seal of God.

How can you say "I don't judge others" in the same breath you judge others?

I agree with you that some people do not represent your religion very well, but then again neither do you.

The important thing to do is lead by example. Do not worry about other people judging, just be sure not to do it yourself.

Because 90% of Christians are hypocrites that sin all week long then go to church on Sunday to wash it all away.
